Job Summary:\ Provides primary healthcare in collaboration with physicians, and under the general supervision of the medical director. Manages selected cases according to established protocols. Prepares case histories, medical reports, and other records. Prepares treatment plans. Orders x-rays and other diagnostic procedures. Writes prescriptions according to protocols. Refers acute and chronic care patients. Conducts health assessments utilizing diagnostic tools and laboratory tests. Provides patient education counseling. Primary capacity would be family practice, with some assistance in an urgent care setting as needed.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Provides patient medical services, which are limited to services within the training and experience of the practitioner.
  2. Obtains complete, detailed, and accurate medical histories on patients. Reviews patient records to develop comprehensive medical status reports.
  3. Performs health assessments and physical examinations and records all pertinent patient data.
  4. Collaborates with physicians and other health professionals.
  5. Interprets and integrates patient data, for the purposes of establishing presumptive diagnoses, and the general workup of the patient by ordering appropriate laboratory Studies, radiological and other special examinations or diagnostic procedures required for the evaluation of illness.
  6. Administers injections, immunizations, and oral medication. Sutures wounds. Prescribes, administers, and dispenses drugs in accordance with federal and state laws and standards of practice.
  7. Provides instructions and guidance and counseling regarding medical care matters to patients and their families.
  8. Arranges for referral or refers patients to needed services that cannot be provided to patients in the clinic.
  9. Interviews and advises patients regarding health and illness prevention. Recommends community resources to meet patient and family needs, as appropriate.
  10. Triages patient telephone calls and provides consultation, as requested.
  11. Performs independent evaluations and treatment procedures in emergency situations.
  12. Monitors patients and provides continuity of care between visits.
  13. Records complete and accurate chart entries on patient transactions, writing orders, and recording progress notes summarizing patient clinical care- assists physicians with additional chart completion, as requested.
  14. Maintains a cooperative attitude with clinic personnel, physicians, and patients, and families (as needed) to enhance the continuity of care and a positive working environment.
  15. Maintains established department policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety, environmental, and infection control offers recommendations for revisions at least annually.
  16. Attends scheduled department staff and clinical meetings.
  17. Exercises utmost diplomacy and tact to provide excellent customer service for patients practices confidentiality and privacy protocols in accordance with SCK Health policies and HIPAA requirements.
  18. Performs other duties, as may be required.

Skills

  1. Above average interpersonal communication skills required; ability to deal with the public, patients, and fellow staff in a pleasant and professional manner.
  2. Knowledge of professional medical practice and care to give and evaluate patient care.
  3. Knowledge of the organizational policies, regulations, and procedures to administer patient care.
  4. Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care.
  5. Ability to interpret, adapt, and apply treatment protocol guidelines and procedures.
  6. Ability to reco nize medical conditions requiring consultation with the collaborating physician, and to work with the collaborating physician, in person, or by the phone, on these and other cases outside the scope of established protocols.

Qualifications\ Graduate from an approved school of nursing or approved physician assistant training program.\ Current state license and DEA\ Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines while keeping a calm exterior and welcoming environment.\ Ability to cross-train in other functions, if necessary.\ Working knowledge of basic communication software.
