Waste Connections Lead Diesel Mechanic in Arkansas City, Kansas

Waste Connections is seeking a skilled and experienced Lead Diesel Mechanic to join our team in Arkansas City, Kansas. The Lead Diesel Mechanic will play a crucial role in overseeing and managing our fleet, ensuring the efficient and effective maintenance and repair of our fleet of diesel vehicles and equipment. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical expertise in diesel engines, strong self motivation, and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of safety and quality.

Pay : $30 per hour

Responsibilities :

  • Oversee the scheduling of maintenance and repair tasks for diesel vehicles and equipment, prioritizing work orders to minimize downtime and maximize fleet availability.

  • Conduct diagnostic assessments and troubleshooting of diesel engines, drivetrain systems, and related components to identify issues and develop appropriate repair solutions.

  • Perform complex repairs and maintenance tasks on diesel engines, including but not limited to engine overhauls, transmission repairs, and hydraulic system troubleshooting.

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant safety regulations and company policies, promoting a culture of safety awareness and adherence among team members.

  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repair activities, including parts usage, labor hours, and equipment history, using digital systems and documentation procedures.

  • Collaborate with Wichita supervisors and managers to identify opportunities for improvement in equipment performance, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.

  • Stay current with industry developments, emerging technologies, and best practices in diesel engine maintenance and repair, and share knowledge with team members as appropriate.

  • Foster a positive and collaborative work environment, promoting teamwork, open communication, and a commitment to excellence among team members.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by management to support the overall operation of the maintenance department.

Qualifications :

  • Technical or vocational training in diesel mechanics or a related field preferred.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a diesel mechanic, with demonstrated expertise in diagnosing and repairing diesel engines and heavy equipment.

  • Previous experience in a leadership or supervisory role preferred, with strong interpersonal and team-building skills.

  • Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and equipment, including computerized diagnostic software, to troubleshoot and repair diesel engines and related systems.

  • Strong knowledge of diesel engine components, systems, and operating principles, with the ability to interpret technical manuals and schematics.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as collaboratively as part of a team.

  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record required; CDL preferred .

  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as needed.
