KMT Waterjet, Inc., a Shape Technologies Group Company is seeking an entry-level Electrical Controls Engineer to join our Product Development team. In this role, you will play a crucial role in our product development team designing and sustaining control systems and documenting, testing, and qualifying products. You will report to the Director of Engineering and collaborate closely with other departments and senior engineers.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to the following:
Designing and maintaining electrical control systems for products, including
Specification of components
Generate electrical drawing packages (schematic + assembly) using AutoCAD and/or Solidworks electrical design software
Testing and Qualifying designs
Assist in the development and test of control software on PLCs and Linux gateways
Works with designers, project managers, and engineers to develop a functional design that meets product requirements
Evaluates design concepts for economy, safety, and regulatory compliance
Completes administrative duties necessary to launch the designs for fabrication, machining, and assembly
Performs any necessary technical calculations to ensure a functional and sound product
Interfaces with vendors for procurement of components
Assist in preparing testing specifications and operation and service manuals
Support Technical Service in the field during installation and in-house
Occasionally travel to customer sites to gather data and assist with machine troubleshooting
Other duties as assigned
Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this position.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES :
Proficient understanding of control systems used in industrial equipment
Knowledge in some or all of the following are desired, or the ability and strong interest in developing this knowledge/skillset
Knowledge of National Electric Code (including NFPA 79) and CE Machinery Directive requirements
High level of analytical ability where problems are complex.
Exceptional oral and written, presentation and communication skills.
Ability to work independently on projects in addition to functioning well in a team environment.
Ability to take initiative; highly self-motivated.
Demonstrated ability for innovative/creative thinking.
Familiarity with PLC development languages (Ladder, Structured Text, etc.)
Proficiency drafting packages for machine schematics, especially AutoCAD and Solid Works electrical
Use of PDM system, ERP systems, and other business systems where data is stored
Knowledge of design controls used in high-volume product
Intermediate level of skill with Windows, Excel, Access, and Word.
Ability to travel on short notice, to lend technical support.
Capacity to adapt to changing priorities and environments in a fast-paced, dynamic organization.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE :
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from a four-year college or university.
0-2 years of relevant experience.
Aptitude for debugging electrical and/or software issues
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
TRAVEL
There is occasional light travel associated with this position.
