Shape Technologies Group Shop Supervisor in Baxter Springs, Kansas

Description

Shape Technologies Group is seeking an experienced Machine Shop Supervisor to join our team. In this role, you will oversee and coordinate daily operations of the 1 st shift machine shop. This role is responsible for ensuring production efficiency, maintaining quality standards, and fostering a collaborative and results-driven work environment. You will report to the Director of Manufacturing and collaborate closely with other departments to maintain seamless operations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to the following:

  • Provide direct supervision and guidance to shop personnel, ensuring a productive and safe work environment.

  • Develop training programs to build a cross-functional, high-performing team.

  • Mentor and strengthen leadership capabilities among Team Leaders.

  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and problem-solving.

  • Manage machine shop workflows and execute schedules in coordination with the Production Scheduler.

  • Ensure timely maintenance and upkeep of all shop equipment.

  • Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering to implement new tooling that enhances quality and reduces costs.

  • Work closely with engineers on new designs and process change requests.

  • Prepare and review daily work order completion reports, efficiency reports, and earned hours reports.

  • Uphold and enforce company policies, safety protocols, work standards, and quality expectations.

  • Drive compliance with the Quality Management System (QMS) and lead 5 Why problem-solving initiatives.

  • Monitor and evaluate direct labor performance, providing coaching and feedback for continuous improvement.

  • Ensure adherence to all workplace safety and operational best practices.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function of this position.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position has supervisory responsibilities.

LOCATION

Baxter Springs, Kansas

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES :

  • Strong leadership, coaching, and team development skills.

  • Ability to quickly analyze data and implement improvements that drive measurable business impact.

  • Experience in change management and process optimization is a plus.

  • Proficiency in problem-solving methodologies (e.g., 5 Why, Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement).

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills across departments, including engineering, quality, and production teams.

  • Ability to interpret blueprints, engineering specifications, and manufacturing workflows.

  • Strong mathematical skills, including statistical analysis, geometry, and trigonometry.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and manufacturing-related software.

  • Knowledge of process auditing techniques to ensure compliance with defined quality standards.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE :

  • Associate’s degree (A.S.) in a relevant field, technical school diploma, or equivalent work experience.

  • Three or more years of machining and supervisory experience in a manufacturing setting.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS :

  • Forklift Certification

  • Hoist/Rigging Certification
