POSITION SUMMARY: This position will be responsible for performing moderate to small engineering projects, ensuring projects meet nuclear plant requirements regarding technical quality, reliability, schedule and cost. Projects may include design, studies, evaluations, NRC submittals, and problem solving. This position will provide support to other engineers and groups in areas of expertise as called upon. This is the entry level and ladder engineering positions leading to career level (Engineer V).

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: • Develop, and implement procedures, programs, specifications, and engineering methodology to meet industry standards, regulatory guides, and commitments, and to assure WCGS is designed, built, operated, maintained, and tested consistent with our license bases and design bases. • Determine whether plant systems and/or components are capable of performing their license and design bases functions. • Perform safety evaluations. • Approve procedures, specifications, regulatory screens, safety evaluations, change packages, calculations, and other engineering documents (new or revised). • Manage engineering program budgets and schedules. • Perform independent reviews and analysis of industry operating experience, reportable events, NRC issuances and other sources of plant operating experience information to identify areas for improving plant safety and reliability. • Provide technical information and consultation as well as coordinate work efforts with the work unit to support and evaluate the operational and safety situations and problems. Perform operational and safety reviews and evaluations to select optimum design alternatives. (Engineer II, III) • Ensure that all documentation affected by modifications are identified and changed to ensure inconsistencies in documentation will not result. (Engineer III) • Perform and evaluate probabilistic risk of failures to determine minimal component/system/plant risk to the public to ensure safe and efficient operation. (Engineer III). • Perform other duties as assigned by supervision/management.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: • The Engineer I position requires a BS degree in Engineering. • The Engineer II position requires a BS degree in Engineering and two years relevant experience preferred or a MS degree in engineering. • The Engineer III position requires a BS degree in Engineering and four years relevant experience preferred or a MS degree in engineering and two years of experience preferred or a PhD in engineering. • Curriculum must be accredited by the accreditation board for engineering and technology (ABET). Any other baccalaureate engineering curriculum that has not been accredited by ABET but has been evaluated and found to be of an equivalent standard that may be reviewed and accepted by the Kansas Board of Technical Professions is acceptable. • Relevant experience is defined as professional level experience in engineering, engineering support or nuclear plant operations and support. The incumbent must possess engineering expertise related to the general area of assignment such as electrical, mechanical, civil, nuclear, etc.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Successful completion of the Engineering Fundamentals examination is preferred. COGNITIVE SKILLS (language, mathematics, reasoning): • This position requires the ability to: read, analyze, and interpret complex documents; make effective and persuasive presentations on complex topics to top management, and/or boards of directors. • This position requires the ability to: comprehend and apply principles of advanced calculus, modern algebra, and advanced statistical theory; work with concepts such as limits, quadratic and differential equations, and proofs of theorems. • The position requires the ability to: apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems; deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.) in its most difficult phases; deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables. **

VISION: This position requires the ability to pass vision requirements associated with Company physical in order to read detailed engineering prints and drawings and inspect equipment installations and job sites. NOISE: This position requires the ability to work in a moderately noisy environment (examples: business office with computers and printers, light traffic). ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: This position requires good oral and written communication skills. This position requires a satisfactory work record including good attendance.
