SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND REQUIREMENTS JOB TITLE:Metering Operations Engineer REQUISITION:CUS00GC DEPARTMENT:Metering Operations - 1331 N Jackson (F&M Complex), Wichita Service Center, Topeka Operations Center LOCATION:Kansas City, MO Wichita, KS Topeka, KS PAY RANGE:Engineer I: $64,100 - $80,100 Engineer II: $78,200 - $97,800 Staff Engineer: $87,400 - $109,300 Sr Engineer: $88,500 - $118,000 * *Scheduled Work Hours: *Monday - Friday, 7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. *Summary of Primary Duties and Responsibilities: With minimal supervision, candidate will be responsible for all aspects of major metering projects, communications, operating procedures and practices. Candidate will be required to demonstrate the ability to make sound engineering judgments and reasonable assumptions, when necessary, as a part of the normal daily duties. Duties will include working with metering standards, software upgrades, meter programming and development. Work with field employees on metering projects and communications to EMS with various protocols. Position will require interfacing with many other workgroups and with external customers.
Education and Experience Requirements: Requires a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited program. Preference will be given to candidates with previous experience working with electric utility

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Required: Must possess a basic understanding of electrical theory concepts and a working knowledge of power systems is preferred. Good computer skills and a working knowledge of Microsoft office & databases will be required. The candidate will also need to become an expert on WattNet Plus and be responsible for upgrades, troubleshooting and training as well as meter and AMI software. Successful candidate must be able to evaluate, select, and apply industry best practices to metering. The position will require knowledge of communications from the meter back to the RTU and to MV-90. Knowledge of the Landis Gyr Gridstream network is a plus as well. Requires a working knowledge of the technical environment under the group’s responsibilities along with the capability to learn and understand all governing codes and regulations. Must have demonstrated good organizational skills, excellent oral and written communication skills, and the ability to work effectively with others in a team environment. Other required skills required include routinely demonstrating initiative, motivation, creative thinking skills, and be a self-starter.

Licenses, Certificates, Bonding and/or Testing Required: Must have a valid driver’s license.

Working Conditions: Conditions will vary from office to field environments including field locations and substations. Must be able to work additional hours on short notice in office and field settings. Some travel may be required. Will be subject to call outs during major events. Must have a satisfactory work record including good attendance.
