JOB TITLE: Public Safety Manager REQUISITION ID: CHI005C DEPARTMENT:Safety – Open to All Evergy Locations LOCATION: Kansas City, MO Topeka, KS Wichita, KS PAY RANGE: $93,100 - $124,100

Scheduled Work Hours:Monday - Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Other hours required for off-shift public programs, emergencies or storm coverage.

*Summary of Primary Duties and Responsibilities: * • The Evergy Public Safety Manager is responsible for leading all public-facing safety programs. These programs seek to educate and influence all 3 integral parties of the Evergy stakeholder circle – employees, customers and shareholders. Most specifically with our customers, the Evergy Public Safety Program leads communication, education, outreach, networking, incident investigation and more with these focused Evergy customer groups: children, contractors, first responders, agriculture and the general public.
• The Public Safety Manager is responsible for all facets of Public Safety Programming including budget, public-facing relationships with high-ranking officials, content, external outreach, internal resources and success of the Program. The work of the Public Safety Manager directly mitigates extensive risk for Evergy in injury and damage claims by public stakeholders. • The Public Safety Manager will represent Evergy and the Safety Team by taking the lead on all public projects partnered with various groups. These groups vary from Corporate Communications, solar installation, ESG, regulatory, Tier 1 customer relations, Legal and more.
• The Public Safety Manager will lead and review all public safety investigations resulting from an event involving a person working for Evergy or a member of the public that incurs an injury (including in a vehicle accident) that requires more than first-aid treatment and/or a call to 911 and/or a transport from scene by medical personnel, that involves Evergy assets or events when structure/equipment that Evergy serves sustain significant damage, that has a potential for press coverage or that has a potential for reporting to outside agencies. • This Public Safety Manager is the subject matter expert in the Company in this role and is responsible for guiding the Company in all related matters. He/she also has broad impact across the Evergy territory and the industry overall.

Education and Experience Requirements: This position requires a high school diploma or GED. DOL journeyman level qualification or a Bachelor’s degree in Science, or Industrial Safety or is preferred. Electrical utility craft experience and public speaking skills are required. Emergency Services or response experience preferred.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Required: This position prefers a minimum 12 years of safety-related experience or 12 years of experience in delivery operations. Other experience may be in knowledge of applicable public laws and regulations and of OSHA regulations including 29CFR 1910 and 1926, excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to convey information accurately and effectively, excellent comprehension skills – the ability to read, understand and accurately interpret laws, OSHA, EPA, and NFPA regulations and standards, and the ability to create and deliver presentations to large and varied internal customers and external community groups and leaders.
Most importantly, the Public Safety Manager will have proven and observed genuine interest and passion in keeping Evergy public stakeholders educated and safe while living and working around Evergy assets on a daily basis.

Working Conditions: Work is performed in office and field settings. Travel to other locations within the company is required. Position requires work beyond normal working hours depending on workload and public demand. Must have a satisfactory work record including good attendance, a positive attitude, and strong working relationships.
