POSITION DESCRIPTION\ General firefighting work in combating, extinguishing and preventing fires and the maintenance of\ department equipment, apparatus and quarters. Firefighters maintain visibility with the general\ public, the private sector, and other local governments. This position is under the supervision of the\ Shift Commander.\ ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Firefighters respond to alarms, lays and connects hose, holds nozzle and directs fog or water\ streams, raises and climbs ladders, makes forcible entry into buildings when necessary,\ rescues trapped persons an applies resuscitation measures, and becomes proficient in the use\ of department firefighting equipment.
Extinguish fires, ventilate buildings to drive out smoke and gasses.
Perform salvage/cleanup operations.
Repairs and services resuscitation equipment, gas masks and fire extinguishes.
Makes home and building fire inspections upon direction of the supervisor.
Performs general maintenance work in upkeep of department property to include hose drying,\ cleaning, washing, polishing and the testing of department apparatus.
Attends drills, training and other classes as directed, infrequently may operate equipment.
Performs related work as required.
