JOB TITLE: MEDICATION COORDINATOR

SUMMARY: Assist the licensed nurse (RN) in providing safe and ethical care for individuals
served by monitoring the administration of prescribed drugs and completing other delegated
nursing tasks allowed by state law.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be
assigned.
Responsible for ensuring monthly cycle medications are correct and dispensed as ordered.
Ensures that paper MAR (medication administration report), electronic MAR and pharmacy
labeling match. Also ensures that PRN paper MARS match electronic MARs.
Ensures paper MARs are placed at residential sites.
While placing cycle medications, a monthly check will be conducted of all medications at each
home and service center for accuracy and expiration dates of medication. Properly disposing of
any expired or discontinued medications.
Prior to ordering PRN medications, the Medication Coordinator will call or go to site to make
sure a refill of medication is needed.
Assist agency nurse with sorting and filing incoming client medical information.
Assist agency nurse with entering client medical information into database.
Will monitor staff preforming med admin or other nursing tasks within the scope of practice.
Recording medication administration according to agency procedure.
Recognize and perform tasks according to level of education and training.
Accepts responsibility and accountability for own performance according to state laws and
regulations.
Performs tasks in an ethical, legal, and caring manner.
Perform tasks safely and effectively to assure individual comfort and welfare.
Respect individual rights.
Protect confidential information unless otherwise required to promote individual safety and
welfare.
Follow federal, state, and agency regulations to protect own health and that of others.
Seeks guidance from the RN as needed to perform tasks safely and efficiently.
Relays information and communication (e.g., phone calls, emails, efaxes) between the pharmacy,
medical providers, and programming regarding medication changes/additions or medically
ordered treatments. Ensures that electronic MAR is accurate.
Works cooperatively with all other staff in developing, maintaining knowledge of and carrying
out each individuals person-centered plan.
Keeps accurate and current mileage logs and maintains safety and security of the site.
Must be available for emergency callback to all shifts when required.
Presents positive, fair, and accurate image of Tri-Valley Developmental Services, Inc. to public.
Attends and participates in Agency Inservice and Staff meetings as required.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
High School Diploma or equivalent required. Six months of work experience with intellectually
and developmentally disabled adults is preferred. Must obtain and maintain a valid Kansas
drivers license, CPR and multi-media First Aid certificate, and Medication Administration
Training. Driving record must be acceptable to Tri-Valleys insurance carrier.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with persons with
developmental disabilities, parents and guardians, co-workers, management personnel, and the
public. Good professional judgm ent: honesty and integrity required.
