CNC Machine Operator Job Description

Position Title: CNC Machine Operator

Reports to: Production Manager/Supervisor

Job Location: Norwich, KS

Employment Type: Full-time

Hours: Monday – Thursday (6:00a – 4:30P)

Job Overview:

The CNC Machine Operator is responsible for operating Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machinery to produce high-precision parts and components. They work closely with engineers and production teams to ensure that parts meet exact specifications, quality standards, and are produced in a timely manner. The role requires strong technical skills, and attention to detail.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operation:

  • Operate CNC milling, lathe, and other automated machinery.

  • Verify the machine's operation by conducting test runs and adjustments.

  • Quality Control:

  • Inspect finished parts to ensure they meet design specifications using measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges.

  • Perform in-process inspections to ensure consistent product quality.

  • Record and report any defects or quality issues.

  • Blueprint Reading and Interpretation:

  • Read and interpret blueprints, and technical drawings to understand the specifications of parts.

  • Adjust machine settings based on the machining process and material properties.

  • Tooling and Material Selection:

  • Choose appropriate cutting tools, fixtures, and materials based on the product specifications and desired tolerances.

  • Replace worn or damaged tools as necessary to maintain product quality.

  • Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate records of production runs, tool usage, machine settings, and inspection results.

  • Report production status, delays, or machine malfunctions to supervisors or managers.

  • Safety and Compliance:

  • Follow all safety protocols and adhere to company policies and regulations.

  • Ensure machines are used in a safe and responsible manner to prevent accidents or damage to equipment.

  • Collaboration:

  • Work with engineers, production teams, and other departments to optimize machine performance and improve manufacturing processes.

    Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification or apprenticeship in machining or related field preferred.

  • Proven experience operating CNC machinery (3-axis, 4-axis, or multi-axis machines) preferred.

  • Proficiency in reading technical drawings, and blueprints.

  • Strong understanding of CNC programming languages such as G-code is helpful.

  • Experience with precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, etc.) is helpful.

  • Familiarity with quality control standards and inspection methods.

  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.

    Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

  • Must be able to stand for extended periods.

  • Frequent bending, reaching, and handling of heavy materials.

  • Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.

    Work Environment:

  • Work is performed in a manufacturing setting, with exposure to loud noises, dust, and machinery.

  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required.
