Panasonic North America Machinist - Level 5 (PECNA) in De Soto, Kansas

Overview

The Machinist – Level 5’s daily work includes developing new parts or making repairs to old parts for existing machinery using welding and flame cutting equipment such as arc welders, gas welders, and gas torches. Works from blueprints, process sheets and sketches to perform production tasks, which may include the cutting and shaping of metal to precision dimensions. The individual may identify and repair minor machine malfunctions. Works on assignments that are routine in nature.

Position Summary: The Machinist – Level 5’s daily work includes developing new parts or making repairs to old parts for existing machinery using welding and flame cutting equipment such as arc welders, gas welders, and gas torches. Works from blueprints, process sheets and sketches to perform production tasks, which may include the cutting and shaping of metal to precision dimensions. The individual may identify and repair minor machine malfunctions. Works on assignments that are routine in nature.

Essential Duties:

• Assist engineers by testing and supporting machines, tools, equipment, and mechanical systems.

• Troubleshoot product designs and suggest or implement improvements.

• Repair, rework, or modify mechanical assemblies to meet operational specifications.

• Welding work that focuses on repairing and maintaining equipment by applying heat to bond/fuse metal surfaces or parts together

• Collaborate with engineers to perform root cause and failure analysis as required.

• May support manufacturing to ensure the product is created to engineering specifications.

• Proficient in operating CNC machines and expert understanding of machinery and its components.

• Operating Manual Equipment

• Expert-level programming of CNC machines, covering fundamental and advanced methodologies in G-Code and various CNC programming languages.

• Optimize materials, develop a comprehensive waste management strategy for resources, actively pursue initiatives, and implement best practices to minimize waste.

• Promote a secure shop floor and workplace environment by practicing safety guidelines and endorsing safety audits.

• Capable of executing comprehensive processing operations and facilitating improvements while having the aptitude for effectively developing human resources.

• Facilitate the training and development needs of Machinist – Levels 3 and 4 team members by supplying expert guidance and support.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Requirements:

• To ensure the health and safety in the workplace and for the protection of our employees,’ wearing PPE is a possibility and includes equipment such as a full Tyvek suit, safety shoes, gloves, safety glasses, face mask, and a full hazmat suit that includes a respirator.

Qualifications: Requirements - Required and/or Preferred

Education

• Required: High School Diploma, General Education Development (GED), or minimum two years of production/manufacturing experience

• Preferred: 1 to 2 years of vocational training or associate degree

Essential Qualifications

• At least eight years of experience working in the maintenance field.

• Minimum of eight years prior machine shop experience or apprenticeship

• Eight years of experience in inventory management, including shop department forecasting and supplying tooling needs and materials.

• At least five years of computer programming experience, advanced skills in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel), AutoCAD, SolidWorks, CAM programming, and G-code programming.

• Strong mathematical skills in Algebra, Geometry and Trigonometry

• Maintaining and repairing manufacturing production equipment

• Five years’ experience fabricating simple fixtures as we as performing metal cutting/trimming work using tools including welding.

• Ability to interpret engineering drawings.

• Ability to work independently and must have an aptitude for spatial reasoning.

• Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing, and speaking English.
