Purpose: The Food Service Delivery/Kitchen Assistant delivers food and non-food items and provides general kitchen assistance. To accomplish these tasks the driver must work closely with the staff and administration of Derby Public Schools.

General Responsibilities:

• Transport food and supplies among district facilities.
• Maintain assigned schedule.
• Maintain vehicle in clean condition.
• Maintain proper hygiene, sanitary and safety practices as regulated by state and district policy.
• Keep abreast of new information, innovative ideas and techniques.
• Maintain fuel level of assigned truck.
• Follow traffic laws and drive in a safe manner to ensure safety of the driver, others on the road, condition of truck and food.
• Immediately inform the Food Service Supervisor of lateness or emergency mechanical failure.
• Inform Transportation Supervisor of routine maintenance and repair.
• Assist with receiving. Check product quality, count, and accuracy of order.
• Mop kitchen spills and hazardous spills in the cafeteria.
• Assist with maintaining inventory.
• Ready food items for preparation.
• Adhere to all district health and safety policies.
• Other duties as assigned by the Food Service Supervisor, Head Cook Central Kitchen and appropriate administrators, which are consistent with the general requirements and qualifications of the position.

• Communicate effectively with all members of the school district and community.
• React to change productively and handle other tasks as assigned.
• Appropriately operate all equipment as required.
• Support the value of an education.
• Ensure that all food delivery is completed in a timely manner as to meet schedule demands.
• Comply with all district policies, rules and regulations.

Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:

• Requires the ability to sit or stand.
• Requires the ability to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials.
• Requires the ability to stoop, kneel, bend and reach.
• Must be able to work in noisy and crowded environments.
• Must be able to work in and around fumes and odors.
• Must comply with department dress code.
• Must be able to work in hot and cold environments.
• Must be able to run electrical equipment.
• Must be able to lift 40 pounds occasionally.
• Must be able to lift 25 pounds repeatedly.
• Requires regular attendance and/or physical presence at the job.
