Description 1. Performs various chemical, microbiologic, and microscopic tests in any one or combination of areas within the laboratory to obtain data for use in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. Interprets results based on basic clinical information regarding patient age, sex, and condition.2. Adjusts and maintains laboratory equipment and apparatus.3. Obtains Laboratory specimens via venipuncture or capillary puncture from both inpatients and outpatients. Able to obtain adequate specimens from all patient age ranges - neonatal to geriatric.4. Receives written or verbal orders from physicians for routine or special laboratory testing.5. Correctly documents test results in the hospital information system.6. Identifies and labels all specimens to be retained and files them for future reference.7. Charts results to patient's chart and files Laboratory copies of report using laboratory information system.8. Participates in the development of policies and procedures in his/her area of the Laboratory.9. Helps in the identification of educational needs of assigned area of the Laboratory and assists in the planning and/or teaching of inservices.10. Attends continuing education courses offered by the hospital and other sources.11. Judges the adequacy of a specimen submitted to the laboratory and requests another if the original is unsatisfactory.12. Assists in quality control, quality assurance, and safety in meeting requirements set forth by inspecting agencies.13. Refuses to procure specimens on unwilling, rowdy, or improperly identified patients until the situation is corrected.14. Performs test order entry for lab tests.15. Performs other duties as assigned.JOB DESCRIPTION: QUALIFICATIONSKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Must be able to read, write, file and organize. Must be able to use a computer in daily work.Education:High school diploma or equivalent. Individual must graduate from an accredited Medical Laboratory Technician or Clinical Laboratory Assistant program. Associates Degree in Science is preferred.Experience:Previous clinical laboratory experience is preferred.Certification/Licensure:Must provide documentation of current registry.Code Blue Training:B.C.L.S. (Basic Cardiac Life Support): Maintain certification, renew every two years.JOB DESCRIPTION: PHYSICAL DEMANDSRequires occasional sitting. Frequent walking and standing are required. Occasionally required to lift up to 35 lbs. and carry up to 25 pounds. Eye-hand, manual, and finger dexterity are required. Requires corrected hearing and vision to normal range. Requires working irregular hours and under stressful conditions. Some exposure to communicable diseases, sharps, hazardous materials, and body fluids is required. Occasional bending, twisting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, and grasping is required. Overhead work is occasionally required. Occasional pushing and pulling of objects up to 75 lbs. Requires the ability to distinguish letters or symbols. Use of office equipment such as computer terminals, telephones, or copiers is required.JOB DESCRIPTION: WORKING CONDITIONSDue to the function of the Laboratory, it is necessary to staff on a 24 hour a day basis seven days a week. This includes holidays . Personnel working in the laboratory must be available to work different shifts to accomplish this mission. Additionally, personnel in the Laboratory are required to work overtime and call. Laboratory personnel are required to wear appropriate attire when working.
