POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for the delivery of patient care through the nursing process of assessment, diagnosing, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Responsible for directing and coordinating all nursing care for Medical-Surgical patients based on established clinical nursing practice standards. Collaborates with other professional disciplines to ensure effective and efficient patient care delivery and the achievement of desired patient outcomes. Serves in the Resource Nurse role when oriented and as directed. Supports the organization vision and mission. Utilizes knowledge of patients age and cultural diversity into the provisions of patient care. Contributes to the provision of quality nursing care through performance improvement techniques that demonstrate positive outcomes in patient care.

POSITION EDUCATION/QUALIFICATION: Graduation from an approved NLN accredited nursing program. Current nursing licensure in Kansas. Experience and or training in the ER setting. Current BLS and ACLS certification. TNCC certification preferred.

JOB KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE: Requires knowledge of standards of care and Medical Surgical unit policies and procedures. Knowledge of facility equipment. Cognitive and technical knowledge and the ability to progressively manage care delivery across the continuum of care. Able to work under pressure, and with physicians, nurses, and ancillary staff. Able to prioritize tasks and situations and demonstrate leadership abilities. Must be efficient and versatile. The ability to retrieve, communicate and present data and information both verbally and in writing is required as is the ability to express or exchange ideas by means of spoken and written words. Must be flexible with work scheduling. Involves discretion and independent action within limits.

Acquired advanced knowledge of physiological, psychosocial, and therapeutic components specific to the care of a critically ill patient. Ability to practice nursing as described by the following definition: The diagnosis and treatment of human responses to actual or potential health alterations. Ability to utilize the nursing process in the provision of nursing care including by not limited to administering treatments and medications, interpreting diagnostic tests, formulating a plan of care, collaborating with other health care providers, and providing education to patients/residents and /or significant others.
