JOB SUMMARY:

Flexible Hours: Work around school schedules.

Able to Sleep, Study, and Do Laundry all while working. Answer our 24-hr helpline and text line, gather information and pass it on to the On-Call Advocate.

Provide Resources, information, and referrals appropriately.

Respond ethically and calmly to callers.

Provide crisis and emergency support, information, and referrals to victims and their survivors, with follow up support provided as appropriate.

Provide friendly, welcoming environment for clients.

The Helpline/Shelter Support Staff provides assistance to victims and their survivors in immediate crisis and/or danger. They must quickly assess callers safety; by providing immediate resources, support, information, and appropriate referrals. The Helpline/Shelter Support Staff obtains pertinent information from callers and relays information to the on-call advocate and/or Crisis Services Director. The Helpline/Shelter Support Staff has an understanding of sexual and domestic violence, stalking and human trafficking.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: ? WORK DIRECTLY WITH CLIENTS

  • Provide crisis and emergency support, information, and referrals to victims and their survivors, with follow up support provided as appropriate.

  • Provide factual and unbiased information to clients regarding law enforcement, medical, and legal procedures.

  • Provide support services and inform victims and their survivors of available community resources.

  • Participate, as appropriate, in family (resident) meetings and or lead resident activities that promote communication, age-appropriate activities and positive role modeling.

BASIC HELPLINE/SHELTER SUPPORT SHIFT DUTIES

  • Find a replacement if unable to work. Helpline staff is listed on the phone directory.

  • Provide written report of activity on shift to the next shelter staff or Crisis Services Advocate on the next business day.

  • Provide a welcoming environment to survivors entering the shelter. Assist with room preparations including hygiene materials, intake and exit paperwork, as appropriate.

  • Maintain a clean, comfortable shelter.

MAINTAIN SHELTER SECURITY

  • Comply with all SOS policies and procedures, ensuring that they do not engage in activities that jeopardize their own integrity or safety, the integrity or safety of a client, or the integrity of any SOS program.

  • Refrain from giving legal or medical advice to clients and from representing themselves as a mental health counselor.
