Summary THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a OCA- SHEET METAL MECHANIC (AIRCRAFT), Position Description Number D1371000 and is part of the KS 190 Air Refueling Wing, National Guard. Responsibilities As a SHEET METAL MECHANIC, WG-3806-10 you will perform duties such as, independently inspects aircraft and determines the nature and extent of repairs to be made, using applicable technical orders as guidelines. Works directly on the aircraft and its components, fulfilling such tasks as removal, repair, modification and installation of parts and assemblies, such as frames, stringers, longerons, bulkheads, beams, ribs, spars, skin, cowling, brackets, faring, access doors, panels and other related items. Repairs cracks in aircraft skin, Fabricates and fits patches to damaged areas, determining repair detail necessary to retain or restore original strength. Troubleshoots aircraft structural repair situations in such areas as fuselage, tails, wings, cowlings, and stabilizers. Inspects damage or deterioration and determines repair or replacement of plastic, fiberglass, composites, bonded structures, and bonded honeycomb assemblies using powered and nonpowered tools and equipment. Manufactures and ensures that metal tubing, conduits and cables are fabricated and tested in accordance with drawings and specifications. Sets up and operates power shears, brakes, rolls, dimpling machines, drill presses, saws, portable powered tools, specific detection and measuring equipment, and other metal working equipment, including use of other tools of the trade. Applies protective coatings, markings, and decals after proper removal of corrosion and treatment of metals. Perform other duties as assigned. Work Schedule: This position works on a 5/4/9 compressed work schedule that consists of a 5-day workweek, then a 4-day workweek (eight 9-hour days and one 8-hour day and an SDO, Scheduled Day Off) to complete the 80-hour pay period. Work schedule is subject to change based on mission requirements. Military Grades: E1 through E5 Compatible Military Assignments: 2A773 **MUST BE WILLING AND ABLE TO CROSS TRAIN GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Must be experienced in sheet metal mechanics develop patterns and lay out, cut, form, join, assemble, and install items such as heating, air conditioning, and ventilating pipes; conduits; drying ovens; bulkheads; airframes; spars; air scoops; control and flying surfaces; metal furniture; and other items and systems with combined straight and curved edges or irregular curves and planes. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have 18 months experience in the following: - planning, laying out, and constructing manufactured items and systems with dovetailed, set-in bottom, burred-bottom, wired, or lock seams; - using complicated measuring instruments such as protractors; calipers; snap ring, height, depth, dial, and screw pitch gauges; and other hand measurement devices to measure plans and projects; - operating complicated shop tools and equipment, for example, hand or powered crimping, burring, turning, and beading machines and soldering and welding equipment; and - working with various metals, including magnesium, honeycomb material, alloys, stainless steel, and copper sheet. PHYSICAL EFFORTS: Works long periods of time exerting self when bending and shaping or constructing the more complex items. Lifts heavy equipment and components weighing up to 50 pounds and with assistance up to 100 pounds. WORKING CONDITIONS: Works inside and outside, in a variety of weather conditions; wet, slippery and icy roads, aircraft surfaces and work stands, in extreme temperature and humidity. Subject to the dangers from exposure to toxic fumes, high pressure air and fluids, fast actuating metal aircraft surfaces such as leading gears, speed brakes, missile doors and flaps, engine noise, heat blast, intake suction, rotating propellers, explosive munitions, electrical voltage, cartridge actuating device, liquid oxygen, fire or explosion of aircraft fuels, lubricants, paints, solvents and other hazardous material.
