U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command Editorial Assistant in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas

Summary About the Position: Editorial assistants provide basic editing and related support for content submitted to the Army University Press for publication in all of its outlets to include, but not limited to Military Review, the NCO Journal, the Journal of Military Learning, and any new online platforms. Responsibilities Conducts initial edit review to ensure manuscript conforms within stipulated submission guidelines and makes suggestions concerning updating those guidelines. Provides guidance and assistance to prospective authors and others inquiring with regard to applicable procedures, instructions, and regulations pertaining to Military Review and other Army University Press publishing platforms. Coordinate with Defense Automated Printing Services (DAPS) and printer, as appropriate, to ensure that subscription mailing lists are up to date, that invoices are received and paid, and any other business, as directed by the Managing Editor. Prepares all print orders for Military Review (English, Portuguese and Spanish) and other content. Input information into General Fund Enterprise Business System (GFEBS) and also into Defense Logistics Agency, Document Services Online (DSO). Maintain general files in support of article submission process; prepares and archives administrative correspondence and files. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience utilizing various automated computer programs (i.e., graphics and/or publishing software) to prepare correspondence, technical documents, and/or print ready layouts and providing administrative and clerical functions. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). OR Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Journalism, English, Business Administration, etc. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Communications and Media Interpersonal Skills Management Tools Writing Education FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
