Electrician Maintenance (Generator Mechanic)

Where: Fort Riley, Kansas (Ft. Riley TFM)

Type: Non-Exempt

Compensation: $28.47/hr.

Work Schedule: Full-time, Day Shift

Skookum is seeking a consistent and collaborative Electrician Maintenance with a positive attitude.

Typical duties include but are not limited to:

  • Performs monthly preventive maintenance and repairs on internal combustion (IC) engines, diesel generators, and associated equipment, automatic transfer switches (ATS) and annunciator panels.

  • Conducts automatic and manual transfer tests of simulated power outages to ensure generators are functioning properly (Annual).

  • Repairs switch gear, transformers, and circuit breakers

  • Conducts automatic and manual transfer tests of simulated power outages to ensure generators are functioning properly (Annual).

  • Inspects, operates, and tests industrial equipment to diagnose malfunctions.

  • Plans and lays out work using diagrams, drawings, manuals, and schematic diagrams

  • Keep records of maintenance, work performed and cost of work.

  • Tests batteries, fuel coolant and oil. Transport and dispose hazardous materials (Oils, antifreeze, batteries).

  • Communicates and interacts directly with the customer, informing the customer of unexpected or additional repairs and determining customer needs.

  • Ensures completed work meets quality control standards.

  • Make difficult diagnoses and suggest solutions and repairs to customer.

  • Communicates with scheduler to update status of repairs and estimate completion dates.


  • Diesel Generator Technology degree.

  • 5 – 8 years of experience in Commercial and Electrical Systems and Controls or equivalent combination of experience and education.

  • NFPA 70E certification, Arc Flash and ATS Training and Cat Electric Power I or II is preferred.

Physical Requirements:

Employees must have the ability to perform the following physical demands for extended periods of time with or without assistance. The physical demands of this position may be reasonably accommodated for individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions on a case-by-case basis.

  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

  • May be required to reach, kneel, walk, stand, and use repetitive motion for several hours at a time based on position duties.

  • Work may require repetitive motion, reaching, lifting, kneeling, and walking. Standing or sitting for several hours at a time, climbing in and out of a vehicle, and up and down stairs may also be required.

  • Must have the perseverance to work effectively under pressure for extended periods of time.


  • Valid state driver’s license is required with the ability to obtain and maintain coverage by Skookum’s insurance carrier.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain applicable security clearances and installation access. A background check and E-Verify will be conducted for this position.

  • Must be able to respond to after hour calls in case of emergency power outage
