About the Position: This position is located in the Fort Riley Directorate of Emergency Services, Police/Provost Marshal Division, Combined Dispatch Operations Center at Fort Riley, Kansas. Responsibilities Provide emergency services to the public by answering emergency 911 calls and responding with appropriate personnel and equipment. Perform caller interrogation to determine the problem and the nature of the call. Retrieve statistical information from computerized databases. Monitor computerized fire and Joint Capabilities Integration Development System alarm systems. Maintain an accurate status of all emergency response equipment and personnel to ensure prompt and accurate response. Operate Computer Aided Dispatching system, telephones, radios, and station alerting systems. Provide initial Incident Command support until responding emergency units arrive on scene. Provide emergency medical dispatching assistance to callers with medical emergencies. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1.) Answering emergency and/or non-emergency calls for police, fire, or ambulance assistance; 2.) Dispatching emergency personnel as needed in accordance with priority level procedures; and 3.) Operating communications software to perform dispatching duties such as: log calls, prepare reports of activities, and assist with medical dispatching until appropriate emergency units arrive. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5-minute sample with three or fewer errors. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Customer Service (Clerical/Technical) Interpersonal Skills Manages and Organizes Information Technical Competence Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position may offer a relocation incentive to applicants if they are a current Federal government employee who is relocating from more than 50 miles from the duty location.
