The Maintenance Worker maintains district facilities in top condition to ensure full and productive use of district facilities. Worker must work closely with the staff and administration of USD 234.

FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Safeguard confidential and/or sensitive information.

Communicate pleasantly and effectively with all the members of the school district and community.

Provide excellence in customer service both internally and externally.

Maintain a clean and organized workspace to insure a safe and efficient working environment.

Ensure that all activities conform to district, state, and federal guidelines.

React to change positively and productively.

Keep abreast of new information, innovative ideas and techniques.

Adhere to all district health and safety policies, including all precautions of the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assist in maintaining the school buildings and grounds in top condition.

Assist in promoting the safety, health, and comfort of students and employees in school buildings and grounds.

Maintain a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency in all maintenance and repair products.

Perform preventive maintenance, repair, and installation in connection with:

o Electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems

o Exterior and interior of buildings

o School grounds.

Move equipment and materials within and between school buildings.

Work overtime when emergencies arise in order to prevent disruption of the schools.

Act as a substitute custodian when necessary.

Operate all equipment, including vehicles and powered equipment, such as mowers, tractors, skid steer, dump truck, snow blowers, chain saws, gas clippers, and pruning saws safely and appropriately.

Assist groundskeeper as needed.

Maintain, adjust and repair all equipment used and structures, including buildings, fences, or benches, using hand or power tools.

Move furniture and equipment within the district as needed.

Repair outdoor chairs and benches.

Provide proper upkeep of sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, planters, or other grounds features.

Assist with maintenance requests as needed.

Assist in snow removal from driveways, sidewalks and parking lots, and spread material to promote melting and safety.

Inspect all playground equipment, and make repairs as necessary to maintain safety for students.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Facility Director or Superintendent.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

Level 4 Heavy Work

o Exerting 20 - 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10-25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly.

Must be able to adapt to a fast-paced, multi-faceted work environment.

Must possess valid drivers license.

Frequent stooping, bending, reaching, kneeling, crawling and turning.

Requires climbing and balancing.

Requires lifting, moving and carrying items up to 50 lbs.

Arm-Hand Steadiness - The ability to keep your hand and arm steady while moving your arm or while holding your arm and hand in one position.

Trunk Strength - The ability to use your abdominal and lower back muscles to support part of the body repeatedly or continuously over time without \'giving out\' or fatiguing.

Extent Flexibility - The ability to bend, stretch, twist, or reach with your body, arms, and/or legs.

Manual Dexterity - The ability to quickly move your hand, your hand together with your arm, or your two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects.

Oral Comprehension - The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.

Static Strength - The ability to exert maximum muscle force to lift, push, pull, or carry objects.

Control Precision - The ability to quickly and repeatedly adjust the controls of a machine or a vehicle to exact positions.

Near Vision - The ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).

Oral Expression - The ability to communicate information and ideas in speaking so others will understand.

Must work indoors and outdoors year-round.

Indoors, Environmentally Controlled - Job requires working indoors in environmentally controlled conditions.
