Job Title: Certified Nurses Aide / Unit Secretary/ Student Nurse Tech.

Reports to: House Supervisor / Medical Surgical Nurse Manager / CNO

Job Summary:

CNA- Performs direct patient care activities, including activities of daily living and basic nursing care such as care of skin, oral, and personal hygiene. Monitors vital signs, patient intake and output, documents daily cares in the electronic record and reports any changes in patient condition to the Nurse.

Unit Secretary- Acts as the primary clerical resource for the unit under the direction of the House Supervisor. Transcribes orders legibly and accurately. Maintains patient charts in accordance with current policy. Files radiology and lab reports, charts blood sugars, and keeps charts in proper order. Prepares admission and transfer charts and organizes discharge charts. Answers call light system, notifies staff of patient needs, answers telephone, monitors telemetry unit, able to retrieve and input information in the electronic chart.

Education Requirements:

Graduate from High School or equivalent

CNA training program

Certified by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment

Nurse tech must be enrolled in an accredited Nursing program and have completed the 1st semester of Medical Surgical Nursing

Basic Computer Skills

Working conditions:

Healthcare environment can be stressful and fast paced, flexibility and ability to adapt to change is important. May be exposed to patients with communicable disease and situations and or patients that have the potential for exposure to infectious / hazardous materials. Employee will be provided personal protective equipment and must use PPE correctly.

Physical requirements:

Standing and walking up to 2/3 of the time.

Sitting up to 1/3 of the time.

Talk and hear patients and co-workers 2/3 or more of the shift.

Repetitive use of hands 2/3 or more of the shift.

Push, pull weights up to 125 pounds, up to 1/3 of the shift.

Stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl up to 1/3 of the shift.

Reaches with hands and arms up to 2/3 of the shift.

Can carry up to 35 pounds.

Accurate vision up to 20 feet 100% of the time.

Adequate hearing to converse with others, use the telephone, hear alarms, and call system.

Ability to grasp simple / light and firm / heavy objects up to 1/3 or more of the shift.

Ability to perform fine motor skills, as in buttoning a shirt or opening and closing a safety pin.

Possesses reading, writing, and communication skills to be understood by others

Ability to tolerate unpleasant situations that may be presented by the patient or others.

Responsibilities:

Assures compliance with infection control personal protective equipment, blood borne pathogens, hazardous material handling and fire safety standards.

Provides direct patient care, personal hygiene, oral care, toileting.

Observes patient for physical and emotional changes and reports to nurse.

Plans patient tasks according to the patient and unit needs.

Implements treatments within scope of practice. Includes but is not limited to:

Collection of specimens

Monitoring vital signs

Assisting with data collection on admission

Providing sitz bath

Application of cold or warm packs

Blood glucose testing

Administering enemas

Recording Intake and output

Documentation of cares

Assists in maintaining equipment and department in functional order

E sures accurate charting in a timely manner

Participates in educational meetings, in-services and departmental meetings

Treats all members of the health care team with courtesy and respect

Protects and preserves the rights of patients.
