Description

The City of Garden City is accepting applications for Customer Service Rep Cashier with the Service & Finance Department. This position is responsible for the revenue collections from the public including current, inactive, and delinquent utility payments/accounts, taxes, various department revenue, and miscellaneous funds. Balance cash drawer daily. Assists citizens requesting utility service and information. Works for and is responsible to the Utility Billing Services Supervisor. Provide customer service regard all utility billing functions.

Examples of Duties

  • Posts cash payments, utility applications, daily connect and disconnect orders, work orders, and security deposits.

  • Process requests for new service and changes in service; monitors past due utility accounts.

  • Receives revenue for public utilities, services and taxes including residential and commercial accounts.

  • Validates payment received and posts payments accurately and timely; balances cash drawer and prepares cash reports.

  • Thorough understanding to answer citizen questions regarding utility billing service including: Energy Assistance, Bank Debits, Budget Billing and Deposit Refunds.

  • Ability to understand oral and written communication to effectively answer questions from citizens.

  • Answer incoming calls for City Offices and assists or transfers calls accordingly and in a pleasant manner regarding all utility services.

  • Recommends discontinuance of utility services and collects revenue on delinquent utility accounts; Prepares work orders, red notices, door hangers and correspondence regarding termination of services.

  • Assisting customers with online, IVR, and disconnection payments/services.

  • Assisting customers with and learning AMI graphs and customer usage software.

  • Assisting customers with KIOSK payments, balance KIOSK cash drawer, prepare KIOSK deposit, keep machine stocked with bills.

  • Processes undeliverable return mail and contact customer to correct inaccurate information.

  • Reviews delinquent accounts and works with customers to resolve issues and collect payment; arranges for debt repayment including coordination with financial aid programming, agencies, or other resources if needed.

  • Various office duties to include accurate filing, file maintenance, opening the office, and other duties as assigned.

Typical Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Basic knowledge of accounting principles and/or cash transactions required. Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures, and computer technology. Skill in using electronic office equipment and software (Microsoft Office, Tyler Technologies, Diversified Technologies) with precision. Ability to understand verbal and written instructions. Ability to communicate with City employees, officials, the general public and/or vendors in a pleasant and professional manner. Ability to plan, organize and complete timely, a variety of work activities accurately.

Education, Certification and Experience: High school diploma or GED. Over one year experience in clerical/cashier related field. Valid Kansas driver's license required.

Supplemental Information

Environment: Work is performed indoors at a workstation in a controlled environment. Surfaces: Carpet and tile.

Physical Characteristics: Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. and carry up to 10 pounds on occasion, reach, bend, turn, see, hear, lean, crouch, stoop, carry, sit, stand, walk, verbalize and write.
