Federal Aviation Administration Airway Transportation Systems Specialist (Coordinator) in Gardner, Kansas

Summary Serves as an Airway Transportation Systems Specialist (Coordinator) at the Gardner SSC. Responsible for performing a variety of functions directly related to the operation of the National Airspace System (NAS). Focus is on the availability and reliability of the services and products provided to the users of the NAS. Responsibilities Recognized as the subject matter expert and principal technical specialist on legacy and newly developed systems within a large facility or multiple facilities over a large geographical area. Provides the highest organizational level of technical support associated with analyzing, designing, developing, installing, repairing, fabricating, maintaining, modifying, or evaluating the most complex systems for which the FAA is responsible. Evaluates diagnostic data from multiple systems that are integrated to support a network of services or service products. Evaluation of this data is used for correcting deficiencies on Contractor Acceptance Inspection (CAI)/Joint Acceptance Inspection (JAI) and resolving event-based certification issues necessary for the timely restoration of equipment, systems, and services within the NAS. Responsible for all aspects of the SSC projects from initial planning, drawing and specifications review, implementation, JAI, and the disposition of assets. Identifies requirements (staffing funds, materials, equipment, etc.) to accomplish projects and tracks the use of project resources. Integrates Operational Risk Management (ORM) into all planned activities ensuring that all customers and users of services are included and involved in implementation and planning. Provides training, mentoring, guidance, and advice to other employees, technicians, and trainees regarding difficult technical or operational issues. Assists with the repair and/or restoration of services or systems, provides guidance on the availability of backup systems, and upward reports the status of critical events. Established policies and procedures furnish guidance for most assignments, but considerable discretion is allowed to select the most appropriate approach or to develop new solutions. Focuses on overall NAS systems performance and causes of system degradation. Collaborates with system users, planners, engineers, and contractor personnel for acceptance of new or modified systems and provide assistance for resolving problems with the installation or improvements. Possesses a working knowledge of the FAA policies and procedures pertaining to Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Facility and Systems Security, Environmental Compliance Assessment Protocol (ECAP), National Electrical Code (NEC) and Human Resource Directives. Experience that demonstrates an extensive knowledge of and experience in technology, system interrelationships, and management of civilian or military automated aviation, navigation, and electronics systems. Generally, experience at the next lower level, FV-H/FG-12/Level III or equivalent meets the minimum qualifications for this position as long as the experience supports the Demonstrated Abilities identified in the announcement.
