Mechanic (12 month, 40 hours/week, \$17.51 starting pay): The Goddard Public School has an immediate opening for a World Class diesel mechanic. Details for the position are listed below. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES: (Others may be assigned)

1. Maintains qualifications as a school bus driver to be available for driving.

2. Ensures all vehicles are properly inspected by the Kansas Highway Patrol by the 31st of July each year.

3. Inspects and maintains all USD 265 vehicles and equipment.

4. Follows standard procedures to service vehicles on a regular basis (to include but not limited toremoving and replacing flat tires, changes oil, lubricates chassis, rotates tires, checks radiators, checks batteries, checks cooling and heating systems in the engine and passenger section of the vehicles); performs diagnosis and makes repairs; makes recommendations to immediate supervisor to contract out for major repairs that cannot be done in-house, keeps all vehicles and equipment operational.

5. Performs facility, mechanical and equipment duties, which shall include but not be limited to the following: a. Follows standard procedures to perform all maintenance and servicing of buses, other equipment, shop and service areas, and radio equipment. b. Trouble-shoots shop area keeping tools and equipment in working order; performs repair to mechanical parts. c. Reports need for major repairs to vehicles to immediate supervisor.

6. Performs work order projects, maintains accurate service and repair records for all vehicles, and assist in filing them for future reference.

7. Develops and maintains a preventive maintenance program by inspecting for and conducting thorough searches for conditions that might be leading to excessive wear and tear on vehicles and equipment.Rev 02/19ts 8. Follows written and oral directions for job duties; stays alert for and reports emergency situations; abides by district safety standards.

9. Uses tools, equipment, machinery and vehicles provided by the district to accomplish job tasks.

10. Attends in-service training activities for self and job improvement.

OTHER JOB DUTIES (Others may be assigned):

1. Performs other transportation services as assigned.

2. Assists with equipment storage.

3. Follow system for the receipt and issuance of parts supplies and the keeping of records and inventories.

4. Utilizes district parts supplies pickup procedures maximizing personnel time on vehicle tasks.

5. A classified employee may be transferred at any time to any job which he/she is qualified to perform and when the transfer is deemed to be in the best interest of the district.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Must be knowledgeable in all phases of gasoline and diesel auto and truck mechanics. To include but not limited to auto, bus, truck, van, tractor, lawn equipment and other small engines. Section 609 certification is a requirement of the United States Clean Air Act of 1990. It is a requirement for purchasing R-12 refrigerant and recovering R-134a and R-12 and R-1234yf refrigerant as of 01/01/2018.

2. Must be able to read, write and comprehend written and oral instructions.

3. Must possess a CDL Class B license with passenger, school bus and air brake endorsements.

4. Must be qualified to transport children to and from school in a school bus in the state of Kansas.

5. Must hold a high school diploma or equivalent. 6. Successful completion of a course of study in automotive mechanics from a college, university, trade or technical school and a minimum of t o years experience as an automotive mechanic, one year experience as a heavy truck mechanic preferred (a demonstrated equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered as an equivalent).

6. Possess demonstrated ability to achieve certification in competency areas as prescribed by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence for School Bus Technicians.

7. Ability to get along well with others.

8. Ability to plan and utilize time and skills.
