The University of Kansas Health System Director of Cardiology - Hays Medical Campus in Hays, Kansas

The Director of the Cardiology Program is a content expert in cardiovascular clinical care and an experienced leader who is well organized, self-directed and capable of a broad range of programmatic tasks. Daily activities will include planning, organizing and implementing strategies, as well as effective delegation and mentoring in a participative environment. The Program Director is approachable and provides meaningful feedback to staff regarding job performance.

Areas of responsibility include overall direction, coordination and evaluation of the integrated service line departments and executes supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Collaboration with physicians, leaders and associates in areas that provide service to the cardiology patient through building relationships, mentoring, coordinating patient care and creating and sustaining a positive context for the Cardiovascular Program.

  • Oversight of day-to-day management of all operational components of the cardiovascular program and assures operational objectives are met in partnership with the cardiology and surgical medical directors.

  • Direct reporting responsibilities for assigned departments.

  • Participates in and executes strategic planning for cardiology clinical locations.

  • Collaborates with the hospital executive team and medical directors, provides overall cardiology program leadership to ensure seamless care delivery.

  • Collaborates with the Marketing/Communications and external resources on the market assessment, development, implementation and monitoring of marketing and advertising and visibility plans.

  • Development and oversight of safety and quality initiatives, staffing and productivity guidelines, and customer service goals, in conjunction with the operational leadership.

  • Analyzes and monitors compliance with accrediting and regulatory agency standards.

  • Participating in planning and organization of orientation and professional development activities for staff members and participates in guidance and educational programs.

  • Develops, implements and evaluates policies, standards and programs that supports cardiology.

  • Develops and submits budget strategies and capital budgets for the cardiology program.

  • Uses forecasted budget to guide expenditure decisions.

  • Initiates activities to enhance revenues and support cost reduction and containment activities.

  • Demonstrates empathy, intentionally works to put others at ease.

  • Responsible for monitoring and evaluating quality, patient satisfaction and employee satisfaction outcomes to implement strategies for improvement.

  • Maintains a system of management reporting that provides the system with timely and relevant information in all areas of responsibility.

  • Responsible for assuring appropriate management practices, maintenance of appropriate staffing levels, competency assessment, staff orientation, ongoing education and development in all areas of responsibility, in conjunction with operational leaders.

  • Reviews complaints, concerns or questions relative to the cardiac program. Acts as a liaison to facilitate resolution of problems or concerns relative to service delivery.

  • Organizes, assembles and leads teams on specific business projects, and directs and coaches team members through task definition, issues, and completion.

  • Proactively monitors patient and provider satisfaction, business project progress, and works collaboratively with team members, stakeholders, and UKHS cardiology leadership to remove progress barriers.

Required:

  • Five to seven years of experience in a cardiac center leadership role within a multidisciplinary center setting. Proven success in assessing healthcare trends to advance clinical programs

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or related field

  • Organizational skills and the ability to prioritize

  • Interpersonal verbal communication and advanced math skills

  • Creativity, problem analysis and decision making

  • Ability to utilize good judgment, demonstrate patience, and maintain a professional demeanor at all times

  • Ability to work in a busy and stressful environment

  • Ability to work varied shifts

  • Strong leadership skills

  • Proficient in Word, Excel, Outlook, Electronic medical records software

Preferred:

  • Master's Degree preferred: MN, MBA, MHA
