HaysMed Patient Financial Services Rep I (Full-time; Days) in Hays, Kansas

The Patient Financial Service Representative is responsible for functions within assigned Patient Financial Services (PFS), Central Billing Office department. Responsible for accurate and timely action on accounts as it relates to specific responsibilities. Complies with governmental and managed care rules and regulations. Meet department goals as well as productivity and quality standards. Attends and actively participates in training and education. Performs a variety of clerical duties involved in collecting balances due and recording payments to accounts. Answers inquiries from patients regarding account charges, insurance payments and balances due.

  • Receives and resolves patient billing questions and complaints in a compassionate, courteous, professional and timely manner.

  • Take appropriate actions such as changing insurance, re-filing claims, calling insurance companies or answering questions to resolve the issue in a satisfactory and timely manner.

  • Document actions taken in the computer system.

  • Initiates adjustments when appropriate.

  • Review and analyze monthly reports, data, and trends to identify improve opportunities revenue cycle functions and increase charge capture.

  • Assist in development and implementation of department policies and procedures.

  • Performs, analyzes, and trends individual QA data and reports back opportunities for improvement and ongoing education.

  • Receives and processes mail by responding to patient and/or payor requests, documents interaction with patient.

  • Uses good communication and customer service skills.

  • Work with departments to improve processes impacting the revenue cycle.

Infection Control: Initial and Ongoing training in dealing with infection control. Trainings could include but are not limited to, blood borne pathogens, bodily fluids and bio hazardous materials as it applies to your daily work environment.

HIPAA: This position will have access to the following Protected Health Information in order to carry out the duties related to their position based on the following criteria: Primary - required (routine) to do the job; Secondary - required for the job, but mostly be exception; and None - no approved access Description of Information Level Primary: Patient Demographic Information (information used to identify a person): Name, Date of Birth, Address, Race, Marital Status, Religion Financial Information/Insurance (information related to insurance, billing and payment): Billing Information, Payer Name, Payer ID, Account Balances, Plan Elements Covered, Payment Information, Payment Rates Clinical Information (information that describes a patient's health status): Diagnosis, Reports/Medical Notes, Test Results, Problem List, Procedures, History and Physical Coding Information (clinical information that is in (alpha) numeric format): ICD-9 Codes, Rev Codes, CPT Codes Infection Control:Initial and Ongoing training in dealing with infection control. Trainings could include but are not limited to, blood borne pathogens, bodily fluids and bio hazardous materials as it applies to your daily work environment.

Required:

  • High School Diploma

  • Proficient in Excel, Word, PowerPoint

Preferred:

  • Previous experience in health care patient accounting
