RESPONSIBILITY OUTLINE\ Job Title Operator Trainee

SUMMARY\ Attend training classes, under the supervision of assigned training staff, for\ approximately 12 weeks in order to successfully complete course work.
Essential Responsibilities
Classroom Training
Attend classes to obtain knowledge of basic power principles. Complete the course\ work successfully and demonstrate satisfactory classroom and in-plant interaction,\ passing test scores, and a recommendation of the instructor. Comply with the Operator\ Trainee Training program requirements for advancement.
On the Job Training
Prepare to enter the first level of on-the-job training on shift in the operation of the\ scrubber and baghouse under the direction and supervision of the Shift Supervisor.
Work both independently or with others to become familiar with associated plant\ equipment, systems, and locations.
Use the study guide, demonstrations, and other materials available to become qualified\ in this level and subsequent two levels (boiler area and turbine) to become fully qualified\ in the Unit Operator Classification.

Other Responsibilities
Perform other tasks as assigned or required to support Sunflowers mission and\ operations.
Operate forklifts, manlifts, skid steer loaders, and other mobile equipment.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
High school diploma. Technical school or related industrial experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Successful completion of the Edison Electric Institute (EEI) Plant Operator Selection\ System (POSS) test.
Able to satisfactorily complete course study and advance knowledge through the\ structured training program.
Able to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical systems.
Able to read and understand mechanical plans and specifications, such as piping and\ instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs).
Must be able to respond to upset conditions with rational and quick judgment.
Able to work effectively on an independent basis and cooperatively with a team.
Able to communicate effectively by means of telephone, radio, and paging systems\ using three-way communication.
Able to take responsibility for personal and professional growth.
Able to demonstrate time management skills and self motivation.
Able to establish and maintain professional interactions with all employees, vendors,\ guests and others doing business with Sunflower.
Able to properly wear and use required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and other\ safety equipment where and when required.
Must be able to perform non-to-semi-skilled duties, contingent upon level of training\ completed.
Able to dedicate available time for on-the-job training and for studying material.
Written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills at the level required to\ successfully perform the essential responsibilities of the position.
