This is a full-time, exempt level position.

Position Summary:

The Shift Supervisor’s primary responsibilities include supervising and coordinating the daily activities of a team of 6 – 12 hourly personnel, while maintaining high standards for safety, food safety, quality, and production efficiency.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for supervising a team of production staff and all aspects of the operation, during the assigned shift.

  • Have an unwavering leadership commitment to safety and compliance to all safety and environmental policies and procedures. Foster a culture of “Safety First”, encourage colleague completion of safety engagements, training, reporting of near misses and participation in investigations.

  • Facilitate a pre-shift toolbox meeting that includes discussion points pertaining to safety, food safety, quality, operations, and maintenance.

  • Have an unwavering leadership commitment to quality and food safety and work directly with the Quality Manager and staff to ensure quality control procedures and food safety standards are upheld throughout processing. This includes ensuring specifications are being met, inspections are being performed, near misses are being reported and corrective actions are being implemented.

  • Adhere to, and implement Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), HACCP, FSMA and SQF requirements.

  • Ensure all documentation is correctly filled out and turned in including lot changes, cleaning activities, daily production reporting, label verification and shift hand-off information.

  • Champion collaboration between operations, maintenance safety, and quality and lead initiatives for continuous improvement utilizing tools such as SOPs, 5-why analysis, and corrective actions.

  • Be the owner of the first line of involvement with lock out/tag out procedures and confined space entries.

  • Review employee performance and assist in employee development including individual training and assisting in 30/60/90 day reviews.

  • Responsible for ensuring proper cleaning and sanitation of the facility.

  • Observe equipment throughout facility and reports concerns to maintenance staff.

  • Assist in colleague retention and department morale by providing timely feedback (positive and negative) on a regular basis to all direct reports. This includes supervising within the guidelines of company policies and applicable laws, monitoring work performance and coaching when needed, addressing concerns and resolving problems and tracking attendance on a daily basis.

  • Administer supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the company’s policies and applicable laws, including training employees; appraising performance; rewarding and focusing employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

  • Develop a positive working relationship with plant management, and all functional areas within the facility.

  • Work the assigned schedule which includes weekends, and holidays and off shift when needed.

  • Be able to fill in for all positions to cover for absences or vacancies.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications:

  • Ability to sit/stand/walk for prolonged periods of time as well as kneeling, bending, wearing a respirator, and lifting 50 lb. bags intermittently, while performing job duties.

  • Ability to work 12-hour shifts which includes a rotating weekend schedule.

  • Experience in coaching others including documenting corrective actions for work performance.

  • Capable of working in hot and cold environments, confined spaces, in a 50 ft tall open bay processing building.

  • Ability to analyze information quickly to provide feedback in the manufacturing process and troubleshoot equipment failures.

  • Prior work-related experiences preferred including leading teams and working in a food manufacturing environment.
