The Building Inspector, under general supervision, shall be responsible for inspecting businesses, buildings, and homes undergoing, erection, alteration, renovation, demolition, moving of buildings and structures. Examines structures to ensure structures have been built in compliance with building codes and ordinances, inspect the premises for which such permits have been issued and enforce compliance with all Building, Electrical, Gas, Mechanical and Plumbing Codes approved by the Governing Body of the City of Junction City. This position is directly supervised by Codes Administrator/Community Development Director.

- Communicates status of workload to the Codes Administrator/Community Development Director.
- Inspect structures to ensure they are up to code and comply with ordinances.
- Inspect the premises for which such permits have been issued for erection, alteration, renovation, and demolition and moving of buildings and structures.
- Enforce compliance with all Building, Electrical, Gas, Mechanical and Plumbing Codes approved by the Governing Body of the City of Junction City.
- Conduct inspections and re-inspections as needed to determine code compliance.
- For new and existing structures, answer questions about the need for permits and inspections including special inspections and structural observations, general code compliance of designs, procedures, and materials.
- Issue violation notices and stop-work orders until building is compliant.
- Keep daily logs, including photographs taken during inspections.
- Provide written documentation of findings.
- Ensure repairs or alterations are performed correctly.
- Visit site during first phase of construction to make initial inspection.
- Follow up with additional inspections during each phase.
- Take careful notes on what is being erected.
- Conform building complies with approved codes.
- Inspect structural quality and safety of building,
- Inspect condition of the soil, depth of footings, and the pouring of foundation.
- Inspect electrical systems and equipment.
- Examine sound and security systems, wiring, lighting, and generators.
- Inspect wiring for air conditioning and heating systems and appliances.
- Ensure foundation is not crumbling.
- Assess the conditions of homes.
- Report violations of building codes.
- Inspect roofs and siding, garages, plumbing, and AC systems.
- Responsible for accurately and timely completing all records and reports as required.
- Writes legibly, maintains accurate information, and uses proper spelling, grammar.
- Communicates information effectively, accurately and timely with internal and external customers.
- Documents orders and reports in a manner that clearly. communicates rules, ordinances, standards and codes.
- Assists in resolving customer services issues, either personally, by telephone or in writing.
- Maintains records and documents of customer service issues and resolutions. Operates vehicles safely and without at-fault accidents.
- Actively works to maintain a safe physical environment for self and coworkers.
- Utilizes appropriate protective devices as needed.
- Performs the duties of a Combination Inspector as needed and qualified.
- Other duties as assigned.
