The Maintenance Mechanic Assistant at A&K Railroad Materials plays a vital role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our railroad materials moving equipment. This position involves performing preventative maintenance tasks, responding to equipment repair calls, and assisting with troubleshooting and repairs on mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems. You\'ll have the opportunity to work collaboratively as part of a team, contributing to new equipment installations and preventative maintenance projects. As a Maintenance Mechanic Assistant, you\'ll help maintain our commitment to safety, quality, and customer satisfaction in the railroad materials industry.

Requirements

  • Perform assigned preventative maintenance work, ensuring strict adherence to instructions and completing each step accurately.
  • Provide detailed written notes regarding repairs and PM services performed.
  • Basic inventory control for stock parts/components.
  • Respond promptly to service calls, diagnose equipment failures, and make necessary repairs.
  • Conduct basic troubleshooting on machines and equipment to identify and repair mechanical, electrical, and control system issues.
  • Adhere to safety standards by actively participating in safety committees, undergoing safety training, and promptly addressing safety concerns.
  • Collaborate with a team when installing new equipment, ensuring proper installation and functionality.
  • Work both individually and as part of a team on equipment maintenance, contributing to project sustainability.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the maintenance manager.
  • May be assigned to the industrial maintenance team or the mechanics shop based on prior experience and skills.

Minimum Experience:

  • Basic mechanical, electrical, or hydraulics experience in an industrial setting.
  • Ability to weld preferred, with proficiency in stick or MIG welding techniques.
  • Good agility and relative physical fitness for climbing on and off rail cars.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time.
  • Ability to bend, stretch, crouch, and stoop.
  • Ability to lift and carry items up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to perform repetitive movements.
  • Ability to use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls.
