Job Description Summary:

Postdoctoral scholar in the Sleep, Health, and Wellness (SleepWell) Lab within the nationally acclaimed Department of Physical Therapy, Rehabilitation Science and Athletic Training at the University of Kansas Medical Center (KUMC). This position provides mentored training and collaboration with externally funded researchers engaged in behavioral interventions to enhance sleep and health-related outcomes and promotion of healthy aging and living.

Postdoctoral scholars at the University of Kansas Medical Center are individuals who have received their terminal degree and who have opted to pursue further training in a postdoctoral appointment. Postdoctoral scholarship is a time-limited appointment, the primary purpose of which is to provide research and/or scholarly training for an academic or research career.

A postdoctoral scholar at KUMC is expected to: Participate in a full-time regimen of advanced training and research, train under the supervision of a faculty research mentor who will provide the opportunity for collaborative and independent research, as well promote publication of findings and preparation of research grants as determined by a mutual agreement between the postdoctoral scholar and the mentor, participate in relevant academic activities related to the preparation for a career in research or academia, participate in the University\'s Individual Development Plan policy for postdoctoral scholars, have a PhD or equivalent terminal degree (such as MD, DVM, PsyD, PharmD, etc.), and candidates should demonstrate an ability to write and communicate with a scientific audience. Candidates must be able to independently plan, multi-task and complete projects. Ideally, the fellow will be expected to design and execute experiments, analyze data, write and prepare independent grant applications and manuscripts for scientific publications, and supervise graduate students.

Required Qualifications

Education:

  • PhD in Rehabilitation Science or Psychology or closely related field

Work Experience:

  • Experience designing and conducting health-related research studies involving humans.
  • Rigorous training in behavioral science and research methods.
  • Knowledge of analytic software and statistical methods.
  • Experience in scientific writing and dissemination.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Clinical and/or research experience in sleep.
  • Experience with RedCap.
  • Experience with clinical trials.

Skills

  • Ability to actively participate in the successful planning, execution, publication and presentation of research.
  • Strong organizational, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and take a lead role on projects and papers, under supervision and guidance of the Principal Investigator and mentorship team.
  • Demonstrated competence in critical thinking, scientific writing, and oral presentation skills.

Job Duties

  • Work with faculty and research team on all aspects related to the conduct of current and planned research projects.
  • Collaborate with research project staff on project management and data management.
  • Develop related research proposals.
  • Assist with grant preparation and preparation of scientific presentations.
  • Contribute to written dissemination of esearch results in peer reviewed journals.
  • Conduct research assessments on participants enrolled in studies.
