Job Description Summary:

Department of Pathology is seeking a highly motivated candidate to work in the laboratory of Dr. Nikki Cheng, as a part-time, Research Technician. The Research Tech will join a breast cancer research lab to support existing projects and participate in daily lab maintenance.

Job Description:

Key Roles and Responsibilities

  • Under the direction of PI and other research staff, conducts routine elements of research work that requires the use of skills, technical and academic knowledge to follow established procedures, and record results.
  • Maintain a current laboratory notebook, documenting all calculations, work, experiments, and other pertinent research information.
  • Under the direction of the PI and other research staff will perform cell culture, preform subcloning and/or plasmid prep.
  • Under the direction of the PI will make buffers, perform autoclaving and basic mathematical calculations.
  • Participates in maintaining day-to-day laboratory operation that may include ordering supplies, cleanup, routine animal maintenance, and maintenance of equipment.
  • Compliance: Attend and maintain compliance on all orientation and training sessions designated by the University and the Pathology Department.
  • Follow all protocols, and attend regular lab meetings.
  • Perform collaborative studies with other research laboratories at KUMC.

Required Qualifications

Education: High school diploma with biology and/or chemistry coursework.

Preferred Qualifications

Education: Bachelor\'s degree in Science.

Work Experience: 1 year of experience in cell/molecular biology through class work or bench experience

Compensation Statement:

The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
