Role Summary/Purpose:
The VP, Data Governance Program Manager - Cloud Risk Specialist is responsible for overseeing and managing the execution of the Synchrony data management program while ensuring effective risk management practices are in place. This role involves developing and executing program strategies, identifying and mitigating risks, and ensuring successful program delivery aligned with organizational goals. The individual will collaborate with Business and IT Leaders, Data Management process owners, data architects, external suppliers and other stakeholders in the development and integration of data management programs, processes and standards across the organization.

Essential Responsibilities:
Program Management:
Develop and implement data governance strategies and controls specifically for data residing in public cloud environments (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP).
Maintain project documentation, including project charter, requirements, conceptual design, test plans, schedules, and presentations
Oversee the planning, execution, and delivery of complex programs, ensuring they are completed on time, within scope, and within budget.
Create, communicate, and closely manage project plans, risks and issues, and other required project documentation and provides updates/project status as required
Ensure process rigor and adherence with Synchrony's Agile methodologies and standards
Risk Management:
Identify, assess, and mitigate risks associated with programs and projects.
Implement robust risk management frameworks and processes to ensure proactive risk identification and mitigation.
Ensure successful adoption of data management capabilities and controls (on time, on budget, and ensuring quality)
Stakeholder Collaboration:
Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including IT, finance, legal, and business units, to ensure alignment and integration of program management and risk practices.
Provide guidance and support to stakeholders on program management and risk-related matters.
Maintain policies, standards and procedures supporting the effective management and sharing, protection, and use of sensitive data in public cloud environments.
Provide data governance platform support for Synchrony's enterprise data catalog
Performance Monitoring and Reporting:
Monitor program performance and risk management activities, ensuring they meet organizational standards and objectives.
Develop and present regular reports on program progress, risks, and mitigation strategies to senior leadership.
Team Leadership:
Foster a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, and accountability.
Provide guidance and support to ensure that data management policies, standards and procedures are communicated and well understood.
Assist data management process owners and the Chief Data Officer in the operational execution of on-going program logistics including the development of presentation materials
Compliance and Audit:
Ensure programs comply with relevant regulations, standards, and internal policies.
Coordinate and support internal and external audits related to program management and risk practices.
Continuous Improvement:
Stay abreast of emerging data governance challenges and best practices
Stay updated with the latest trends, technologies, and best practices in program management and risk mitigation.
Continuously evaluate and enhance program management and risk processes to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
Strategic Planning:
Develop and execute comprehensive program strategies that align with business objectives.
Contribute to the development of strategic plans and initiatives to drive organizational growth and success.
Ensure program management and risk strategies are aligned with the overall business strategy.
Qualifications/Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree, OR in lieu of a degree, High School Diploma/GED and a minimum of 9+ years of data governance program management or risk management experience
7+ years of progressive work experience to include:
5+ years of experience in data governance program management and/or risk management
5+ years of experience with data governance program management methodologies, tools, and best practices
3+ years of experience with risk management frameworks, processes, and best practices.
Highly Recommended Certifications:
AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner
AWS Certified Risk and Compliance - Specialty
AWS Certified Auditing and Governance
EDM Council DCAM
EDM Council CDMC
Desired Characteristics:
Experience with data governance in a cloud environment is highly desired
Strong interpersonal skills to lead cross-functional teams, foster collaboration and drive consensus across stakeholder groups
Ability to direct technical teams and mentor/coach team members
Exceptional problem-solving, communication and leadership abilities
Working knowledge of data management concepts, processes, and current technologies
Knowledge of data management and project management tools such as Collibra, Ab Initio, and Jira
Awareness of Compliance and Regulatory requirements for data
Ability to convey complex data policies, standards and procedures into language that resonates with the business and administer through training and facilitation of working groups
Strong analytical and technical mindset used to drive data requirements, testing and production validation
Demonstrated competency with linking business strategy with IT technology initiatives
Experience with Agile software development methodology
Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgment in managing multiple and sometimes competing projects while adhering to our PMO standards
Ability to remain calm under pressure and maintain a high degree of diplomacy and professionalism
Self-motivated, proactive, flexible, and dependable
Strong business acumen
Demonstrated ability to drive change and work effectively across business boundaries
Grade/Level: 12
The salary range for this position is 110,000.00 - 185,000.00 USD Annual and is eligible for an annual bonus based on individual and company performance.
Actual compensation offered within the posted salary range will be based upon work experience, skill level or knowledge.
Salaries are adjusted according to market in CA, NY Metro and Seattle.
Eligibility Requirements:
You must be 18 years or older
You must have a high school diploma or equivalent
You must be willing to take a drug test, submit to a background investigation and submit fingerprints as part of the onboarding process
You must be able to satisfy the requirements of Section 19 of the Federal Deposit Insurance Act.
New hires (Level 4-7) must have 9 months of continuous service with the company before they are eligible to post on other roles. Once this new hire time in position requirement is met, the associate will have a minimum 6 months' time in position before they can post for future non-exempt roles. Employees, level 8 or greater, must have at least 18 months' time in position before they can post. All internal employees must consistently meet performance expectations and have approval from your manager to post (or the approval of your manager and HR if you don't meet the time in position or performance expectations).
