  1. Electric Utility Duties
  2. Read all electric meters once a month.
  3. Take care of all electric meter connects or disconnects, fill out connect/disconnect form and turn in to City Clerk.
  4. Repair all electric line damage, maintain security, street and ball park lights.
  5. Trim trees out of electric lines.
  6. Install and remove Christmas decorations.
  7. Remove and replace damaged meters.
  8. Install new electric lines as needed.
  9. Operate bucket truck
  10. Work at heights greater than 30 feet
  11. Water/Wastewater Utility Duties
  12. Read all water meters.
  13. Take care of all water meter connects or disconnects, fill out connect/disconnect form and turn in to City Clerk.
  14. Repair all water line damage, remove and replace frozen or broken water meters, clean tree roots, etc. away from the water lines, maintain the fire hydrant system, flush all the first hydrants on a regular basis (at least two times a year).
  15. Install new water lines as needed.
  16. Take monthly water samples for testing.
  17. Check all sewer lift stations daily and perform necessary maintenance.
  18. Mow sewer lagoon as needed.
  • Streets and Alleys Duties
  1. Maintain all streets by blade work, filling pot holes, cutting ditches, hauling rock, sealing or resealing, removing snow, etc. Keep the city street clean and in good condition.
  2. Keep all ditches and culvert areas cleaned out for proper drainage.
  3. Set whistles and haul rock for the city.
  4. Blade alleys when necessary and haul rock as needed.
  5. Remove all brush and small trees from the city parking, alleyways, corners, or as needed.
  6. Replace street signs as needed.
  7. City Park Duties
  8. Mow city park and ball diamond.
  9. Maintain shelter house, picnic tables, and bathrooms.
  10. Maintain, repair or replace park playground equipment.
  11. Prepare city park for city celebrations.
  12. Equipment Duties
  13. Operate and maintain all non-emergency city equipment. This requires a CDL Class B license.

Assist in daily/weekly cleaning of city hall (cleaning floors and carpet, dumping trash, washing windows, etc.)

  • Administrative Duties
  1. Must have knowledge of all city ordinances.
  2. Advise the mayor and city council of any problems that may arise pertaining to the violation of city ordinances.
  3. Advise the mayor and city council of any problems that may arise pertaining to duties, personnel, etc.
  4. One employee must attend all regular city council meetings (Second Wednesday of each month).
  5. Maintains a current inventory of equipment and supplies.
  6. Completes necessary paperwork required for maintenance of water and wastewater systems and other state mandated reports.
  • Working Hours

8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., five days a week, with one hour off for lunch unless there is an emergency.

On call every other week-end. On call seven days a week for emergencies on a rotating basis with other maintenance employees.

Spray for mosquitoes one evening every other week during the summer.

Workshops are recommended for the position (required for city superintendent). The city pays for training.

Keep a daily work sheet and equipment log.

During business hours, one employee should remain in the city.

Check in with the city clerk at least four times a day (two times in morning and two in afternoon) whe working in the field or when leaving the area.

Personal Qualities

Self-motivated.

Must demonstrate above average physical mobility.

Must demonstrate above average strength be able to handle 100 pound objects.

Must demonstrate average dexterity, balance and coordination.

High school diploma or equivalent.

Class A or B CDL

Proficiency in routine maintenance tasks (motor vehicle, small engine, painting, carpentry, plumbing, etc.)

Good interpersonal communication, written and verbal.

Punctual with good attendance.

Behaves professionally which has a positive reflection on the city.

Willing to accept new responsibilities and develop positive working relationships.

Communicates with citizens, answers questions and is accessible.
