The University of Kansas Health System Cook in Larned, Kansas

Prepares, seasons and cooks soups, meats, vegetables, desserts and other foodstuffs for consumption. Prepares recipes using a variety of kitchen utensils. Reads menu to estimate food requirements and orders food from supplier or obtains from storage.

Essential Functions:

  • Produces food by following recipes for all menu items.

  • Accurately measures recipe items.

  • Preps foods as indicated on food prep sheets and uses proper cooking techniques for menu items.

  • Prepares food properly and takes food temperatures, serves foods at proper temperature.

  • Labels and dates all foods.

  • Completes daily inventory of physician’s lounge items and stock items as needed.

  • Completes tasks in cold prep area as per task sheets.

  • Rotates salad bar items, pars Room Service items.

  • Assembles patient meals as patient has selected.

  • Assembles/disassembles equipment as per specific equipment requirements.

  • Cleans and sanitizes work area and equipment, follows infection control protocol.

Primary – required (routine) to do the job;

Secondary – required for the job, but mostly be exception; and

None – no approved access

Patient Demographic Information (information used to identify a person): Name, Date of Birth, Address, Race, Marital Status, Religion


Financial Information/Insurance (information related to insurance, billing and payment): Billing Information, Payer Name, Payer ID, Account Balances, Plan Elements Covered, Payment Information, Payment Rates


Clinical Information (information that describes a patient’s health status): Diagnosis, Reports/Medical Notes, Test Results, Problem List, Procedures, History and Physical


Coding Information (clinical information that is in (alpha) numeric format): ICD-9 Codes, Rev Codes, CPT Codes


Education/Experience:High school graduate or equivalence preferred; prior food service cooking experience preferred.

Certificates and Licenses:ServSafe certification required or must obtain with in the first two years of employment.
