Job Description:

60% - Support of School Districts

  • Conduct regular on-site visits to partner schools to support their reimagining efforts

  • Promote innovative educational technologies and digital tools such as Artificial Intelligence to enhance teaching and learning outcomes.

  • Provide guidance to administration and staff in integrating innovation and instructional technology in their schools

  • Assist partner district staff in designing and aligning curriculum with learning outcomes and assessment strategies.

  • Create and curate a repository of resources, including instructional guides, templates, and best practices, to support innovation efforts

  • Promote a community of practice among partner schools to facilitate knowledge sharing and collaboration.

  • Design and deliver workshops, training sessions, and one-on-one consultations to help partner districts develop effective innovation strategies

  • Stay up to date with emerging trends and best practices in instructional technology and innovation

  • Collect data to demonstrate the effective practice of technology integration, to support professional development opportunities for all staff

  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement in teaching practices among partner schools

30% - Development and Communication

  • Collaborate with communications and social media staff to promote the work of CRE and partner school districts

  • Assist in grant-writing and other fundraising efforts to grow the Center

  • Participate in regularly scheduled CRE leadership meetings both online and in-person

10% - Other Duties as Assigned

  • Special projects and other duties as assigned.

Work Schedule:

20 hours/week, Monday-Friday between the hours of 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

Required Qualifications:

  1. Master’s degree in instructional design, curriculum & instruction, educational technology, or related field.

  2. 5 years of experience with innovative curriculum, instruction, and assessment.

  3. 5 years of experience supporting educators through professional learning, coaching, and mentoring.

  4. Experience applying universal design and accessibility principles in education, as evidenced in application materials.

  5. Have an understanding of, and a relationship with, a variety of support services that are available for school districts to access, as demonstrated by application materials.

  6. Experience and knowledge with local and state educational policy and statutes, as evidenced in application materials.

  7. Experience using design thinking methods and iterative design processes, particularly backwards design, as evidenced in application materials.

  1. Experience working at the building and district leadership positions at public K-12 school districts.

We provide innovative tools to enhance the capacity of organizations that help children, adults, and communities and we offer support to KU faculty whose research relates to key areas of our mission.

The Center for Reimagining Education (CRE) (https://aai.ku.edu/centers/cre) , a center within The Achievement & Assessment Institute, is looking for an experienced school leader to support innovation in K-12 schools as an Academic Innovation Specialist.

The Academic Innovation Specialist will work collaboratively with both the CRE leadership team and a growing number of regional school districts to provide guidance, support, and coaching to teachers, principals and superintendents in schools that partner with the Center. The ideal candidate will possess excellent oral and written communication skills, work independently, and work collaboratively and creatively in a deadline-driven environment.
