Job Description:

55%- Management

  • Tracks RECR and related research training per federal requirements and university policy. Develops and manages systematic documentation of required research compliance training, including online and in-person delivery, for all research personnel on sponsored projects.

  • Works with stakeholders to ensure that research personnel subject to training requirements are identified, that training resources are made available, and that training is completed within institutional timelines.

  • Compiles reports of compliance that include data on program aspects such as the various methods and formats of instructional delivery, career stage of individuals receiving training, and rates of periodic refresher training.

  • Acts as the primary contact for CITI Program online training subscription, configuration of CITI courses for KU learners, functional aspects of CITI data integrations with KU systems, and reports of CITI data. Creates and tracks accounts of external researchers participating in KU sponsored research who must take CITI courses for RECR purposes. Develops instructions and acts as a resource for questions about CITI course content and availability.

  • Keeps abreast of changing RECR and related research training requirements of several federal agencies and KU policies. Acts as a resource regarding best practices and available instructional materials to KU instructors across campus who provide RECR and related research training.

20%- Communication, training and outreach

  • Develops and keeps Research Integrity calendar of cyclical and ad hoc compliance events and related communications. Maintains history of communications and participation in events across research compliance areas. Reports on initiatives, participation in, and regulatory compliance with RECR training and outreach.

  • Works with director and others to develop effective and timely communications to relevant compliance end-users, supervisors, and administrators.

  • Maintains productive, service-oriented working relationships with stakeholders across the KU community.

  • Contributes to training, instruction, and outreach initiatives.

20%- RECR Resource and Program Development

  • Works with director and others to develop effective and timely informational resources to relevant stakeholders, trainers, program coordinators and individual researchers.

  • Develops and maintains web-based tools and resources to serve a variety of end users, faculty and administrators. Keeps web content across Research Integrity areas up to date.

  • Works with director and stakeholders to develop and facilitate recorded and live programs on relevant RECR topics that fulfill RECR requirements.

5%- Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  1. Master's degree and 3 years of relevant experience in academic, continuing education, training or research program administration or bachelor's degree and 6 years of relevant experience.

  2. Strong oral and written communication skills, as evidenced by application materials.

  3. Experience communicating with a variety of clients regarding information that may be abstract or complex, as demonstrated by prior work experience.

  4. Experience maintaining regulatory or similar compliance documentation and database systems, as demonstrated by prior work experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Master's degree in a field relevant to responsible conduct of research training.

  2. Experience or education in developing effective training materials or managing training programs, preferably on research and/or compliance issues, as evidenced by application materials.

  3. Experience conducting research in STEM or social-behavioral research fields or implementing research regulations and policies in a Research I environment, as evidenced by application materials.

  4. Technical skills to develop high-quality informational materials and work with a variety of learning management systems and methods, as demonstrated by education and previous work experience.

  5. Strong office computer skills, including descriptive reporting and performance metrics, as demonstrated in application materials.

Position Overview:

This position reports to the Research Integrity Director in the Office of Research and works closely with the Office of Research communications group and numerous stakeholder units and administrative offices in the university to provide administrative and programmatic support for Responsible and Ethical Conduct of Research (RECR) and other research-related compliance training in accordance with federal requirements, university policy and best practices. This is a key position working to ensure that research ethics and compliance training for all researchers at the university is conducted and documented in accordance with federal regulations, state laws, and university policies.

The Compliance Administrator Senior manages the Office of Research ethics and compliance training program across the Research Integrity areas of responsibility and has primary responsibility for facilitating, tracking, and reporting on Responsible and Ethical Conduct of Research (RECR) training. The incumbent will develop curricular materials and resources, implement outreach plans, communicate availability of RECR resources and events to relevant groups in the KU research community, and report on activities and participation. They must keep abreast of changing regulations and emerging best practices and work with stakeholders to propose programmatic changes as necessary to ensure continuous improvement of the RECR program.

This position requires knowledge of the complex federal regulations, guidelines and KU policies concerning RECR and related research compliance training requirements; familiarity with development, delivery and documentation of training media and methods; and ability to collaboratively develop informational tools, training curricula and materials. This position requires strong organizational and computer skills, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and attention to detail. The incumbent will work closely with department and research center personnel, faculty and all levels of researchers, research administrators, and other university administrative offices and stakeholders in providing and documenting RECR and other research compliance-related training and informational resources.
