Job Description:

60% Program Management

  • Develops continuing education for law enforcement and specialized law enforcement seminars, courses, classes, workshops, schools, and other training-related events being held on and off the KLETC campus.

  • Researches and develops training classes and seminars for local, state, and federal law enforcement officers.

  • Recruits subject matter experts as instructors and negotiates terms of contracts.

  • Manages program assessment by designing, conducting, interpreting, and reporting evaluations from training events. Travels to external training locations. Evaluates the success of program offerings and report findings to the management team.

  • Makes independent decisions regarding unanticipated contingencies associated with the program.

15% Education Technology Management

  • Serves as subject matter expert for audio/video technology used in the classroom or remote settings, including troubleshooting and resolving problems.

  • Recommends and implements technology initiatives to support training.

  • Monitors the KLETC professional development website postings for accuracy and ensure they are up-to-date.

15% Representation of KLETC

  • Represents KLETC at conferences; serve on commissions, committees, or boards.

  • Actively partners with the Kansas law enforcement community and professional law enforcement associations as directed by the management team.

  • Works with event planning committees to develop and implement law enforcement association conference programs;

  • Coordinates distance learning programs, classes, courses, etc., with other law enforcement agencies or organizations to ensure maximum customer service.

Required Qualifications:

  1. Master’s degree or bachelor’s degree and 5 years related experience;

  2. Experience in the management, coordination, or delivery of education or training programs;

  3. Experience applying excellent communication skills as evidenced by work history and application materials.

  4. Experience with presentation software applications as evidenced by work history and application materials;

  5. Experience organizing, managing, and supervising multiple and varied tasks and projects as demonstrated by education, work history, and application material;

  6. Valid Kansas driver’s license or ability to obtain one within 90 days.

Position Overview:

Hutchinson Campus

The Hutchinson Campus consists of 173 acres with fifteen buildings, including two multi-story residential student dormitories.

The Hutchinson Campus is home to the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center (KLETC). A unit of The University of Kansas (KU), KLETC serves as the central agency for all law enforcement training in the State of Kansas. KLETC manages a $12 million annual budget, 62 authorized FTE staff (augmented by more than 400 contract/adjunct staff annually), and trains nearly 15,000 students annually in residential, online, and outreach programs. KLETC serves 437 recognized law enforcement and police agencies in Kansas, providing basic training and continuing education programs throughout each fiscal year.

Position Overview

The position is a crucial member of the Professional Development and Continuing Education unit at KLETC. The Education Program Manager conceptualizes, designs, and develops programmatic content for the unit’s instruction and service. Independently coordinates large-scale and complex unit program(s) from its inception to the final presentation of the program, including administrative responsibilities. May provide training or teach on a specific subject matter area.
