70% - Design/execute research (data acquisition, analysis, manuscript preparation, presentations, etc.), investigate catalysis and electronic structure studies using inorganic spectroscopy, electrochemistry, and computational methods. Research activities may include project design, journal publishing, meeting presentations.

10% - Contribute to lab responsibilities and maintenance.

Required Qualifications:

  1. PhD in Inorganic or Organometallic Chemistry.

NOTE: To be appointed at the Postdoctoral Researcher title, it is necessary to have the PhD in hand. Appointments made without a diploma or certified transcript indicating an earned doctorate are conditional hires and are appointed on an acting basis not to exceed 6-months.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Proficiency in anaerobic techniques, electronic structure studies, catalysis and mechanistic studies, inorganic synthesis, and inorganic spectroscopy.

  2. Expertise in electrochemistry and organic synthesis is also desired.

Position Overview:

The Department of Chemistry at the University of Kansas is search for a postdoctoral scholar to work in the group of Prof. Manar Shoshani.

Length of Appointment: Initial appointment is for one year with possibility of renewal annually subject to mutual agreement.

The successful candidate will conduct research in synthetic inorganic and organometallic chemistry, including development of novel multimetallic scaffolds to interrogate in small molecule, and inert-bond activation and functionalization. The candidate will be expected to carry out mechanistic investigations in catalysis as well as electronic structure studies using inorganic spectroscopy, electrochemistry, and computational methods. Further research activities may include project design, publishing research results in scientific journals, and presenting research results at scientific meetings. Additional duties include mentoring of graduate and undergraduate research students, active participation in regular group meetings, and support of general lab maintenance and operations. The successful candidate is expected to pursue meaningful professional development opportunities that will prepare them for a productive career beyond this position.
