LEAVENWORTH COUNTY JOB DESCRIPTION

TITLE: EMS Support Technician

DEPARTMENT: EMS

PAY LEVEL: 12 (21.34 DOQ)

LOCATION: Emergency Medical Services Administrative Offices

SUPERVISOR: EMS Ops Manager

SUPERVISES: N/A

SCOPE

Under the general supervision of the Ops Manger, Emergency Medical Services, the EMS

Support Technician will be helping with inventory management of medical supplies, and

maintaining the readiness of the ambulances assuring KBEMS and service compliance standards.

The support technician will also assist with scheduling and verifying maintenance of vehicles

and equipment.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: (*Required prior to employment)

1. Maintains central department inventory levels to ensure proper levels of equipment and

stock.

2. Utilizes inventory control system to reorder, monitor expiration dates, maintain proper

inventory, and rotate stock. Pulls and packages orders for delivery to outlying stations.

3. Maintains reusable equipment through decontamination, sterilization, and repackaging.

Properly collects, disposes and transports equipment for decontamination.

4. Maintains readiness of back-up vehicles including medical inventory, fuel levels,

cleaning and repairs. Assists with deployment of Special Operations Vehicles in response

to mass casualty events.

5. Ensures packing lists match package contents, records item information into inventory

control, stocks shelves, picks up excess stock and returns it to inventory, ensures invoices

and receipts are processed, and ensures invoices and receipts are turned in to business

manager.

6. Issue and maintain uniform inventory.

7. Updates and maintains file information in the computer;

8. Obtains knowledge of department policies and procedures.

9. Obtains knowledge of County Personnel Rules.

10. Possesses knowledge of medical terminology, insurance, and Medicaid practices and

regulations; and applicable city and state laws regulations and ordinances

11. Assists shift officers with their assigned tasks; i.e. maps, oxygen supply, etc.

EMS HUMAN RELATIONS

1. Possess knowledge of HIPAA regulations

2. Demonstrate ability to establish and maintain effective and positive relationships with

county officials, administration, fellow employees, patients, family members, other

public services, hospital staff, and the public.

ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS (This is not an inclusive list, other tasks/duties may be assigned.)

1. Obtain working knowledge of EMS operations

2. Possess ability to assist with patient billing and account records accurately and with

integrity;

Work is performed in all levels of environment to include, at times, unstable work environments.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Must have High School Diploma/GED

Certified as a Kansas Emergency Medical Technician

(3) Years minimum experience with an ALS Ambulance Service.
