Alamo Group Inc. Material Handler - Staging 2nd Shift in Leavenworth, Kansas

Position Summary:

Under direct supervision loads, unloads, and moves materials within or near plant, yard, or work site. Reads work order or follows verbal instructions to ascertain materials or containers to be moved. Operates forklifts and other material handling equipment.

Essential Functions of the Job:

  • Fills requisitions, work orders, requests for materials or other stock items and distributes items to production workers.

  • Assembles orders from stock and places orders on pallets or shelves, or moves orders to packing station, shipping department or trailers.

  • Reads production schedules, customer orders, and work orders, shipping orders or requisitions to identify items to be moved, gathered or distributed.

  • Inspects product load for accuracy and safely move it around the warehouse or facility to ensure timely and complete delivery.

  • Stacks or assembles materials into bundles and bands together in preparation for movement.

  • Loads and unloads materials to or from pallets, trays, racks and shelves manually, by hoist or forklift.

  • Moves materials and items from receiving or production areas to storage or other designated areas by hand, hand truck or forklift.

  • Loads materials onto vehicles and installs strapping, bracing, or padding to prevent shifting or damage in transit.

  • Sorts and places materials or items on racks, shelves or in bins according to predetermined locations.

  • May be assigned additional responsibilities as necessary to support the manufacturing and distribution operations.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA's):

  • Knowledge and basic understanding of inventory management.

  • Knowledge of basic warehouse, shipping and receiving operations.

  • Knowledge of basic math and computer data entry.

  • Excellent coordination skills, adjusting actions in relation to others' actions.

  • Ability to accurately read and interpret blueprints.

  • Ability to adequately manage one's own time and the time of others.

  • Able to perform basic measurements using tape measure and other measuring devices.

  • Able to operate a forklift and handtruck to quickly and repeatedly adjust the controls of a machine or a vehicle to exact locations.

  • Effective communication skills to provide information to supervisors, leads, co-workers and subordinates, in written form or in person.

  • Able to wear personal protective equipment.

  • Able to work overtime and/or including weekends as production schedules dictate.

Education and Experience:

High school diploma or GED preferred.

Minimum one year of previous shipping, receiving, warehouse or material handling experience; preferably in a metal manufacturing production environment.

Work performed in a non-climate controlled metal manufacturing production environment, with frequent standing, twisting, bending, stooping, and climbing in and around metal fabricated parts. Frequent lifting, pushing or pulling of 40 pounds alone and 100> pounds with assistance. Requires sufficient manual dexterity and visual acuity to identify required parts and operate, grasp, manipulate or assemble production equipment (i.e. forklift, handtruck, etc.)
