Job Description

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Manager, Education, is a leader and process expert accountable for managing their assigned department and direct reports, including project managers, learning design strategists, learning development strategists, and instructional design specialists, and working with speakers, internal and external subject matter experts (SMEs) and vendors to ensure educational outcome, strategic, operational, and financial goals are met for assigned activities on the educational master plan. The Manager, Education, is a leader of the Career and Practice team.

Specific aspects include:

  • Create a departmental culture that is consistent with AAFP Cultural Attributes. Set and communicate vision for the department that emphasizes quality, continuous improvement, key employee retention and development, and high performance. Participate in organizational and divisional leadership activities.

  • Provide oversight and direction for reporting staff in accordance with organizational policies and procedures with the goal of empowering and supporting the independent work of the team. Provide direction and expectations to direct reports.

  • Manage the overall operational and financial responsibilities and activities of the department, coordinating with the other managers and the Director, Education. Plan, evaluate, and improve the effectiveness of business processes and procedures to enhance speed, quality, and efficiency.

  • In collaboration with divisional and other organizational staff, lead the development and implementation of activities assigned to the department in the educational master plan, addressing barriers as needed.

  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or other related field plus at least four years of related experience.

  • Experience with the creation of continuing medical education preferred.

  • Experience managing multi-functional teams preferred.

  • Ability to read and interpret financial reports, and experience with expense budget development and reconciliation.

  • Ability to understand and interpret other business data, such as performance and sales reports and outcomes reports, in order to assess progress to goals and initiate improvements.

  • Ability to understand and apply ACCME Essentials and Standards for Commercial Support and other applicable laws or regulations with which AAFP-provided CME must comply.

  • Proven history as effective people/team leadership and management.

  • Ability to work collaboratively across teams to successfully achieve results.

  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication, and analytical skills.

  • Effective time management skills, problem solving abilities and the ability to multi-task.
