Position Summary

This position involves supervising, assigning, training, reviewing and participating in the work of full and part-time staff responsible for daily customer service activities and overall support of Parks and Recreation registrations and reservations. The Parks and Recreation Customer Service Supervisor directs staff that regularly assists external and internal customers with a variety of inquiries and requests including facility amenities, membership sales, and program registration; and as supervisor, resolves customer complaints and concerns. Work is performed with latitude for decision-making within established guidelines and with general supervision from the Rec Services Manager.

Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities

  • Directly supervises Customer Service frontline and concierge staff including recruiting, hiring, training and evaluating employees work. Plans and supports professional development activities for staff. Proactively resolves work-related problems or assists employees to achieve Division goals.

  • Maintains staff schedules and timesheets within scheduling and pay software assuring staff stay within appropriate status hours and timesheets correctly balance.

  • Maintains departmental software and related databases including set-up, maintenance and reporting of data. Works with Recreation Supervisors to input programming events into computer systems, assigns rooms and makes updates/changes/cancellations as needed. Responsible for sending weekly and monthly facility reports.

  • Oversees and processes daily closeout of cash drawers for the Parks and Recreation desks at the Rec Center and Old Town Activity Center. Verifies cash balances and prepares reports for Finance. Closes out Rec Center drawers when Rec Center Customer Service Supervisor is out of office.

  • Assists Rec Services Manager with festival staff coverage and managing resale inventory, festival funds including start-up, collection, balance and deposit.

  • Ensures and assists with quality customer service encounters over the phone and in person. Explains rules and policies; resolves customer issues; obtains necessary information from the customer; checks availability, processes payments, inputs reservations in the computer.

  • Coordinates with other departments on various items including, but not limited to: City Hall room approvals; monthly security schedules; weekly/monthly financial reports.

    Qualifications

    Minimum: Associate-s degree in parks and recreation or leisure services and five years- administrative experience, including three years in a supervisory role, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must possess and maintain a valid driver-s license

    and satisfactory credit history. Must possess or obtain First Aid/CPR/AED certification within 6

    months of employment. Must complete required NIMS IS-100 and IS-700 training within three

    months of employment.

    Desired: Bachelor-s degree; Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP) certification.

    Environment and Physical Factors

    Work is performed in a busy Recreation Center office environment. This position requires the

    ability to sit for prolonged periods; mobility to move about the various parks and recreation

    facilities and grounds; and visual acuity to review information for accuracy and thoroughness.

    Compensation & Benefits

    Starting range for this position is $26.76 - $31.02 per hour dependent on qualifications and directly related experience. The City of Lenexa offers a comprehensive benefits package including:
