Sterling Medical Devices Mechanical Engineer in Lenexa, Kansas

As a Mechanical Engineer you will be a key member of an interdisciplinary team to design and test a wide variety of new and innovative medical devices. Products developed at our Company range from simple to very complex and include mechanisms, motion control, pneumatics, enclosure design, acoustics, thermal design, and fluid handling.  Our medical products improve quality of life for patients every day.  Our innovative products are developed by experienced, multi-disciplinary teams and require a high level of hardware and software integration. We are adding a Mechanical Engineer to our 50+ engineering team to support the growth of our vast portfolio of medical devices.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and evaluate mechanical systems and components.

  • Develop detailed solid models and drawings using CATIA V5 and SolidWorks

  • Propose design ideas for the introduction of new measurement technologies, devices, and process technologies.

  • Conceive mechanically oriented design solutions that also involve electro-mechanical, electronic, optical and computer-controlled capabilities.

  • Work with product teams and customers to refine designs for specific applications.

  • Develop and implement concepts into manufacturable form.

  • Apply theoretical knowledge of design and mechanical engineering principles using structural analysis, calculations and tools.

  • Ensure designs meet and exceed product specifications and regulatory requirements.

  • Document the new product development process, e.g., create specifications, define testing protocols, prepare comprehensive performance reports, and comply with medical product requirements.

  • Works with multidisciplinary product teams and clients to refine designs for specific needs.

  • Build mockups and proof of concept models (we are very hands-on with our work)

     Requirements and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.

  • A minimum 3 years’ experience in mechanical design.

  • High level of proficiency with SolidWorks CAD software and CATIA V5 is strongly preferred. Proficiency in other CAD software such as ProE or Inventor.

  • Experience in designing electro-mechanical systems, control systems, pneumatic systems, fluidic pumps, thermal management, and mechanism designs.

  • Proven experience working in cross functional teams developing products from concept to manufacturing.

  • Knowledge of material selection, engineering first principles, tolerance analysis, DFM/DFA, design failure mode and effect analysis (DFMEA) and various manufacturing processes and techniques is required.

  • Experience in injection-molded plastic part design, machined part design and folded sheet metal design

  • Experience developing products in a highly regulated environment such as ISO 13485 and/or CFR 820 is a plus.

  • Experience using computational tools for structural analysis (FEA) and dynamic mechanical performance a plus.

  • SAP experience a Plus!
