The City of Lenexa is looking for a Part Time Seasonal Park Attendant to join our team! The ideal candidate will:

    Hours for this position will be Saturday - Tuesday, 6:30 AM to 2:30 PM and will be seasonal, approximately mid-April through October.

    Position Summary

    This position works in the Facilities Division, under the direction of the Parks Facilities Supervisor and performs varied park maintenance activities that include event set up and tear down, custodial services and cleaning of assigned City parks, park facilities and park grounds. The Park Attendant secures assigned park facilities and monitors the appropriate use of parks and park facilities. This position requires minor decision-making with frequent review and guidance.

    Essential Functions, Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assists the department in carrying out various parks and recreation programs and activities.

  • Provides information to the public regarding parks and recreation activities and programs, including but not limited to special events, park facilities and reservations.

  • Responsible for the custodial services and cleaning of assigned parks and park facilities. Duties include but are not limited to disposing of trash and debris, cleaning restrooms, sweeping and mopping floors, sanitization of water faucets.

  • Responsible for the preventative maintenance of cleaning equipment assigned to the park's facilities.

  • Responsible for replenishing supplies and materials at park facilities including but not limited to toilet paper, paper towels and trash bags.

  • Responsible for ensuring parks are clean and free of pet waste and debris. Ensuring pet waste stations are emptied, dog drinking fountains and paw wash stations are clean.

  • Assists in monitoring activities that occur on park grounds including but not limited to the park trails, athletic fields, playgrounds and park shelters, ensuring to notify the supervisor or Police Department about any suspicious activity.

  • Assists in the cleaning of park playground equipment. Including raking loose mulch to fill in displaced areas under playground equipment, wiping down equipment and notifying parks maintenance crews of broken equipment that needs repair.

  • Assists the recreation and parks maintenance staff in the setup and tear down of events in the parks.

  • Assists in minor repairs at park facilities including but not limited to replacing light bulbs and unclogging toilets and sinks.

  • Assists the park maintenance workers in power washing facilities and park shelters.

  • Maintains City sidewalks, trails and parking lots in a safe manner including, but not limited to, debris and trash.

  • Drives City and/or personal vehicle to perform essential functions of position.

    Additional Examples of Work Performed

  • Assists with planning, set up and cleanup of special events.

  • Assists the Recreation Division with programs as needed.

  • Follows all preventative maintenance procedures and suggests improvements and modifications as warranted.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Compliance with all policies and standards.

    Qualifications

    Minimum: High school diploma or G.E.D. Must possess and maintain a valid driver-s license.

    Desired: Two or more years of grounds experience.

    Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    Ability to:

  • Effectively communicate with the public and coworkers

  • Operate vehicles and equipment used in the upkeep of City grounds and facilities

  • Work such hours as the City determines is necessary or desirable, including evenings, weekends and possibly holidays to meet its business needs

    Environment and Physical Factors

    This position performs heavy physical work requiring the ability to stand and walk; the ability to lift objects weighing 40 lbs. from floor to waist and carry with both hands; the ability to lift objects weighing 20 lbs. and carry with one hand; the ability and strength to push/pull objects weighing up to 50 lbs.; the ability to crawl, stoop, bend, climb, twist and maintain balance as needed; hear warning alarms, radio transmissions, etc. routinely; visual acuity to inspect work; traverse open and uneven grounds and construction areas; step up and out of tandem truck or vehicle; work safely in hazardous situations and cramped or confined spaces. This position will be required to work in extreme weather conditions of all kinds, tolerate exposure to pollen, traffic, machine exhaust and routine exposure to hazardous chemicals, paints and caustic cleaning supplies.

Compensation

Rate of pay is $15.50 to $20.87 per hour depending on experience.
