Position Summary

The Rec Services Manager is a management position in the Parks and Recreation Department responsible for supervising, assigning, reviewing and participating in the work of full and part-time staff responsible for daily customer service activities and overall support of the Parks and Recreation Department. This position directs staff that regularly assist external and internal customers with a variety of inquiries and requests including program registrations, facility reservations and facility rentals; and as supervisor, resolves customer complaints and concerns. Work is performed with latitude for decision-making within established guidelines and with general supervision from the Assistant Parks and Recreation Director/Deputy Parks and Recreation Director.

Essential Functions, Duties and Responsibilities

  • Directly supervises Customer Service Supervisors including recruiting, hiring, training and evaluating employees- work. Plans and supports professional development activities for staff. Proactively resolves work-related problems or assists employees in solving problems. Initiates plans to motivate employees to achieve division goals and evaluates results.

  • Oversees departmental software and related databases including set-up, maintenance and reporting of data. Provides recommendations for future registration software and hardware.

  • Manages the department web page listing and information and serves as the department liaison to Communications and Programming Staff for updates and changes.

  • Establishes and implements operating schedules for Customer Service, policies, procedures, goals and objectives. Delegates tasks and responsibilities to staff to ensure successful completion of all objectives.

  • Manages department internal staff communication avenues that include video and newsletter format. Works closely with the management team to create the department message and provides administrative support in creation.

  • Responsible for coordinating all activities associated with cash handling, gate staff/volunteer scheduling, resale items and final reporting for festivals and special events.

  • Assists other divisions with all customer service procedures, training and program rental/registration.

  • Oversees customer service front-line operations, policy and procedures at Community Center, Thompson Barn, Legler Barn and Recreation Center.

  • Oversees department scholarship program. Processes applications, maintains records and verifies program policy and procedures are being followed. Analyzes program growth and sustainability.

  • Assists Recreation Center Manager on membership goals, member retention plan and member appreciation events.

  • Drives City and/or personal vehicle to perform essential functions of position.

Qualifications

Minimum: Bachelor-s degree in parks and recreation administration, public administration or related field; five years of experience in municipal parks and recreation with at least three years in a supervisory role; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must possess and maintain a valid driver-s license and have satisfactory credit history. Must obtain First Aid/CPR/AED certification within six months of employment. Must complete required NIMS IS-100, IS-700 within three months and IS-200, IS-800 training within six months of employment.

Desired: Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP) certification.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary hiring range is $64,222 to $74,451 DOQ and directly related experience.
