As a Senior Software Engineer on our galley inserts embedded software engineering team in Lenexa, KS; you will play an important role in planning, designing, and developing our industry-leading embedded software solutions.

Our team works alongside multiple hardware and software teams responsible for embedded software engineering processes and activities. You will consolidate test results and conducts single disciplinary research, applying hardware and software standards.

What YOU Will Do:

  • Performs tasks in design, development and implementation of embedded software.

  • Analyzes and investigates engineering project tasks, defines specifications and parameters, develops programs, and resolves any design considerations.

  • Applies systems solutions to business problems through the design and programming of embedded systems.

  • Designs, develops, modifies, and evaluates computer programs for embedded systems used in end item products.

  • Analyzes existing programs or formulates logic for new systems, devises logic procedures, software architecture, prepares flow charting, performs coding, and tests/debugs programs.

  • Participates and supports local and international teams to develop solutions to complex engineering problems. Defines statement of work for domestic and international suppliers to develop software life cycle data per system requirements.

  • Performs all programming and system design assignments without close supervision.

  • Regularly interacts with internal and external customers and interdisciplinary teams to define and meet requirements.

  • Develops and maintains software processes and documentation to achieve airworthiness certification of software products per industry and customer requirements.

  • Involved in defining software requirements and the management of such requirements.

  • Develop and maintain DO-178 Life-cycle documentation.

  • Hands-on troubleshooting of software and hardware systems.

  • Performs other related duties as required.

  • You can take flight to becoming a subject matter expert in DO-178C software life-cycle and certification.

  • We are migrating to more automated software test environments so there’s a lot of new processes and tools we are looking to put in place. You can be part of the team that influences what tools we should use and what processes should be put in place!

  • You will be working with teams in various countries so you will learn how to better collaborate across international teams.

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience.

  • U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or granted refugee or asylee status) as defined here: https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-22/chapter-I/subchapter-M/part-120/subpart-C/section-120.62

  • Minimum 3 years of embedded software development experience.

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience with using a high-level programming language such as (C/C++, C#, Python)

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Applies standard techniques involving innovations of methodology to provide solutions to problems involving a limited number of variables.

  • Participates with drafters, technicians, and others to contribute to project completion.

  • Coordinates work with other engineers and operating groups to facilitate participation.

  • Knowledge of industry standards including DO-178C and ARINC.

  • Knowledge in hardware peripherals such as CANBUS, UART, SPI, IIC, WI-FI etc.

  • Knowledge in automated software test environments.

The salary range for this role is 77,000 USD - 163,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
