National Archives and Records Administration Supervisory Archives Specialist in Lenexa, Kansas
Summary This position is part of the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA), Lenexa Federal Records Center. Under the general supervision of the Assistant Director, Records Center Operations, this position is involved with the full range of records management activities or activities concerned with the receipt, arrangement, description, storage, and reference service on such records. Responsibilities As a Supervisory Archives Specialist, you will: Supervise a subordinate staff, with responsibility for the quality and quantity of work produced by those employees. Determine daily staffing needs based on backlog and incoming agency workload projections. Plan and control the use of space for transferring and storing records. Act as liaison with program officials of other agencies to ensure that agency needs are met. Accumulate, develop and present information for canned and customized files maintenance workshops Requirements Conditions of Employment The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. A one year probationary period may be required. A one year supervisory or managerial probationary period may be required. Must successfully complete a background investigation. Federal law requires verification of the identity and employment eligibility of all new hires in the U.S. Some of the work is performed in an office setting, but a significant portion is performed in records storage areas where physical exertion such as long periods of standing, walking, bending, stooping, reaching, climbing ladders, and lifting boxes of records is required. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: For the GS-09, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes: Leading a small component of a team, program, or project; AND Communicating with customers internally and externally to provide information and resolve issues; AND Applying and researching rules, regulations, policies, and practices to gather facts, and draw conclusions and/or make recommendations. OR EDUCATION: You may qualify with a master's or equivalent graduate degree, or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree OR a LL.B. or J.D, in a field related to this position; (attach a copy of your transcript or list of college courses designating semester or quarter hours earned to ensure proper credit) OR COMBINATION: You may qualify by a combination of experience and education. In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable: For the GS-09, you must have been at the GS-07 level for 52 weeks.
