Job Summary:

As a Tax Accountant specializing in multi-state sales and use tax, you will be responsible for managing and optimizing our company's sales and use tax compliance across multiple jurisdictions. You will play a key role in ensuring compliance with tax laws and regulations, minimizing tax liabilities, and providing strategic tax planning guidance. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in tax accounting, excellent analytical skills, and a deep understanding of multi-state sales and use tax requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and oversee the preparation and filing of sales and use tax returns for multiple states, ensuring accuracy and compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.

  • Conduct thorough research and analysis of multi-state sales and use tax issues, including nexus determination, taxability of transactions, and exemptions.

  • Review and reconcile sales and use tax accounts, identifying and resolving any discrepancies or issues.

  • Collaborate with internal teams, including finance, accounting, and operations, to gather necessary data and documentation for sales and use tax compliance.

  • Provide guidance and support to business units on sales and use tax matters, including advising on the tax implications of business activities and transactions.

  • Stay current on changes to sales and use tax laws and regulations in various states and communicate updates to internal stakeholders as needed.

  • Assist with sales and use tax audits, responding to inquiries from tax authorities, and resolving audit findings in a timely manner.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with external tax advisors and consultants, leveraging their expertise as needed to support tax compliance and planning efforts.

  • Participate in special projects and initiatives related to sales and use tax planning, process improvements, and system implementations.

  • Maintain organized documentation and records related to sales and use tax compliance activities, ensuring completeness and accuracy.

    Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA or advanced degree preferred.

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in tax accounting, with a focus on multi-state sales and use tax compliance.

  • Strong knowledge of sales and use tax laws and regulations, with experience in multiple states.

  • Proficiency in tax software and ERP systems, with experience using [mention specific software if applicable] preferred.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex tax regulations and apply them to specific business situations.
