POSITION SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Public Works Director, the Noxious Weed Licensed Sprayer is a non-exempt position under FLSA. The goal of this employee is to manage the weed control program for the County, including the application of appropriate chemicals to control or stop the growth of noxious weeds in Lincoln County. Duties include inspecting weed growth and the application of chemicals.
ESSENTAIL FUNCTIONS
Participates in the work of weed and brush control for Lincoln County;
Assists the public with inquiries regarding the noxious weeds and weed control;
Assists with maintaining proper inventory of chemicals and proper gallon levels throughout the spraying season, including ordering chemicals and pesticides as needed;
Prepares chemical, and pesticide solutions and applies to noxious weeds in Lincoln County;
Operates spray truck and all other department equipment;
Maintains department equipment, including spray equipment calibration, and performs repairs when required;
Inspects weed growth and identifies need for control;
Assists with annual weed survey for the State Board of Agriculture;
Assists with maintaining department building and grounds;
Assists with selling and maintaining chemical inventory according to Kansas Noxious Weed Statues;
Assists with maintaining accurate records and reports;
MARGINAL FUNCTIONS
Attends training and re-certification seminars to maintain chemical applicator license;
Cleans interior and exterior of the building;
Assists the Road and Bridge crew during down-time
Assists the transfer station/landfill during down-time
Attends and participates in training and educational sessions for department employees;
Performs other related and non-related duties as deemed necessary or as assigned.

EXPERIENCE:
One year of similar or related experience is preferred. Employee is expected to have acquired the necessary information and skills to perform the job in a reasonable manner within six months to one year of employment.
EDUCATION:
A technical degree or college education in general agriculture is preferred but not required. Employee must have a Commercial Pesticide Applicator Certification under the Kansas Pesticide Law. A valid Commercial Kansas Drivers License is required.
TECHINAL SKILLS:
This position requires a working knowledge of weights and measures, mathematics, mapping, and the ability to work with chemicals to calculate amount of herbicide to apply to infested areas. The ability to operate chemical application equipment and office equipment with a high degree of accuracy is required. Knowledge of laws and regulations relating to the control and eradication of noxious weeds, knowledge of chemicals and their safe and effective application, and the ability to inspect and evaluate an areas weed control problems are required. This employee needs to be able to adapt to changing technology.
PROBLEM SOLVING:
Some problem solving exists within this position. Problems this employee may encounter include determining the type of herbicide to apply, determining the amount and appropriate time to apply herbicide to infested areas, and investigating complaints concerning noxious weeds.
DECISION MAKING:
Some decision-making is involved in this position.
SUPERVISION:
his employee acts under the supervision of the Public Works Director.
FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
This employee is responsible for county equipment and resources and will assist in purchasing supplies and equipment.
PERSONAL RELATIONS:
Daily contact with the general public, co-workers, and other departments is expected.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Adverse working conditions exist within this position. Exposure to machinery, equipment and agricultural weed control chemicals and walking on uneven ground is expected.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Work Level: Level 3, Medium Work. Applicant must attain a 2.5 score or above on their Physical Capacity Profile. Manual labor including lifting and carrying heavy objects and operating machinery and equipment is required daily in this position. Examples include, but not limited to walking, bending, kneeling, climbing on and off equipment, lifting and moving objects weighting up to 50 lbs.
